Often an essential part of any laboratory ‘containment’ suite that requires hazardous waste sterilisation prior to safe disposal is inclusion of a pass-through (also known as a double door) autoclave. Key requirement is that both ends of the autoclave sterilising chamber are isolated.

Safe sterile transit is essential; therefore, interlocks prevent both doors being open at the same time as this would obviously breach the integrity of the site. The door at the unloading end will not open until the sterilisation cycle has been successfully completed. Also, it is not possible to release the loading door until the unloading door has been opened and subsequently closed and locked. Once installed the double-door Pass-Through research autoclave is the perfect partner working as an interface between sterile and non-sterile areas.


All sterilising processes are controlled through the very latest Tactrol® 3 controller. Depending on the application Priorclave will configure layout of the Tactrol® controller


to suit lab requirements. A typical set-up could be that only one side of the double door steriliser has access to the full control system, the other side of the autoclave equipped with just a screen to show process status so that staff are aware when a job is complete, and it is safe to remove the media or waste.

The CDC reports that the H5N1 Bird Flu has been detected in several species of wild birds as well as domestic poultry flocks. Sporadic infections with this virus have also been detected in mammals (fox, raccoon, skunks, mountain lions). One US case has been reported following exposure to infected birds, but no person-to-person transmission has occurred.

Thus these monoclonal antibody pairs detect many Flu A isolates found in human, avian, swine and equine sources. These include viruses of H1-H14 types and N1-N9 types. Eltra’s new ELEMENTRAC ONH-p2 is a powerful and robust elemental analyser for measuring oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen concentrations in inorganic samples. The high-detection NDIR and thermal detectors reliably measure elemental concentrations from low ppm levels to the high percentage range. Thanks to the innovative sample lock with pulsed chamber flushing and vertical sample drop, user-friendly and convenient analysis of rod-shaped, granular or powdered samples with a sample weight of up to 2 grams is easily possible.


The analyser can be configured for single-element or multi-element analysis. Oxygen is determined as CO2 in up


to two infrared cells, nitrogen and hydrogen in elemental form in a thermal conductivity cell. The ELEMENTRAC ONH-p 2 uses an ON mode with carrier gas helium (optionally argon) and an OH mode with carrier gas nitrogen to take advantage of the sensitive thermal conductivity cell for nitrogen and hydrogen measurement.


The chemicals and filters required for operation are arranged in a user-friendly way on the front of the unit and can be concealed behind a removable door during routine operation. This arrangement significantly reduces the time required for maintenance and increases user-friendliness.


The ELEMENTRAC ONH-p 2 meets or exceeds the requirements of all relevant international standards such as ASTM E 1019 or DIN EN 3976.
