Cormeum Lab Services, a pioneering clinical testing laboratory based in Louisiana, has revolutionised its infectious disease testing procedures with the aid of an array of pipetting solutions from Integra Biosciences. As the demand for their services surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, the laboratory acquired additional liquid handling instruments to cope with the increased workload, facilitating the expansion of its testing capabilities.
In response to the heightened demand for accurate diagnostics during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cormeum Lab Services was established. To enhance their effi ciency, the facility adopted various Integra solutions, including VIAFLO electronic pipettes for ergonomic and effi cient pipetting, VOYAGER adjustable tip spacing pipettes for parallel transfer of multiple samples across labware of different formats, and an ASSIST PLUS pipetting robot to automate workfl ows and process samples more quickly, reducing turnaround times from 10 hours to just 5 hours per test.
Leilani Graffagnini, Quality Manager in Laboratory Operations at Cormeum Lab Services, explained: “We introduced electronic and automated liquid handling solutions from Integra to handle a larger volume of COVID-19 samples daily. The pipettes have signifi cantly improved our workfl ows; instead of pipetting samples individually, we can now transfer them row by row, and many of our protocols can even be performed hands-free thanks to the ASSIST PLUS. This has increased our effi ciency while minimising the risk of human error, enabling our lab staff to focus on other tasks and their ongoing professional development.

An adapter can be fi tted to the module top to support Glass Static Mixer (GSM) chips.
Offering an operating temperature range of ambient to +300°C, the HotCoil reactor heating module provides a versatile solution for your lab to undertake a wide range of fl ow chemistry reactions. The HotCoil can also be upgraded with a simple adapter to support the use of glass and stainless-steel column reactors for heterogeneous catalysis reaction optimiszation. If you are looking for precise temperature control of fl ow chemistry reactions in GSM chips – then the HotChip is the heater module for you.
Uniqsis also offer a range of modules allowing you to create a high-performance fl ow photochemistry system. The Borealis is a high intensity LED lamp unit, available in a range of fi xed wavelengths that converts an existing temperature-controlled coil reactor module into a fl ow reactor for photochemical applications. The PhotoSyn is a high-power LED light source for continuous fl ow chemistry scale up applications. Available with a selection of different LED arrays the unit can provide outputs up to 700W from the dedicated programmable power supply. These products give reproducible consistent light penetration, controlled exposure times and precise temperature control resulting in higher yields and improved selectivity.
Other ‘building block’ modules are available for fast, effi cient, and controllable gas-liquid phase fl ow chemistry reactions plus a solid-state inline UV spectrophotometer module with fi bre optically connected fl ow cell for monitoring steady state conditions & control product collection.
