Balances, Moisture Analysers & Density Meters
Rapid, Reliable Moisture Measurement
The KERN DBS halogen moisture analyser provides steady, reliable results with high reaction speed, even with delicate samples. Using the thermogravimetric principle to carry out the measurement, the KERN DBS achieves a measurement accuracy of up to +/- 0.01% depending on the size of the sample.
The integrated balance is based on a weighing cell from the new Single-Cell Generation made from aluminium alloy. Thanks to short stabilisation times and high temperature resistance, this cell indicates the weighing result significantly quicker than other weighing systems.
The KERN DBS uses the infrared radiation of a halogen-quartz glass heater with a power of 400 W for drying. Sensitive temperature control ensures uniform heating of the sample and is therefore also suitable for thermo-sensitive samples. The device switches off automatically or is time-controlled, depending on the settings. Temperature ranges from 50-200˚ and different heating profiles mean procedures can be precisely adapted to a particular sample.
Drying programmes include: Standard - ideal for most types of sample; Gentle - for delicate substances; Rapid - for samples with a high moisture content; Stage - an alternative to Gentle drying that prevents sample damage as it is pre-heated.
Up to ten drying programs can be stored in the moisture analyser with parameters, such as, drying period and temperature, display settings, etc. This saves the user time and guarantees repeatable results.
Using a range of features, it is simple for these results to be documented, processed further and tracked. The device allows for the documentation of up to 100 drying processes internally. Additionally, it offers user-friendly options for transferring results to a PC or printer through USB and RS 232 data interfaces. Furthermore, the measurement report can include detailed sample descriptions for up to 99 samples.
In order for the comparability of the results of moisture analyses to be guaranteed in the long term, the correct temperatures must be maintained in the heating chamber of the device or in the sample. KERN & SOHN therefore offers customers regular calibration of their moisture analyser - for genuine, reliable measuring results.

RADWAG has unveiled the ELLIPSIS series, a new line of laboratory balances designed around the advanced 5Y terminal. These balances offer cutting-edge features and functionalities to meet the needs of modern laboratories. The 5Y terminal comes with a large 10-inch touchscreen display that provides excellent ergonomics for users. It’s also highly customisable, offering both light and dark display modes to suit individual preferences.
One of the standout features of the ELLIPSIS series is the introduction of the Digital Weighing Auditor (DWA). This system continuously monitors various environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, pressure, and vibration, ensuring that the balance operates under optimal conditions. DWA also offers real-time air buoyancy compensation, signals the need for balance inspection, and helps maintain compliance with USP standards.
User verification is uncompromised, with multiple methods available. Users can log in using a password, RFID chip (in token or card form), or fingerprint recognition. Additionally, facial recognition, thanks to the 8 MP camera, serves as the first step in a two-step verification process. Voice and text notes can be added to measurement series or procedure reports, ensuring that important observations and conclusions are never forgotten. Users can even issue voice commands to the ELLIPSIS, further enhancing its user-friendliness.
The ELLIPSIS series includes a range of balance types, including ultra-micro balances, microbalances, analytical balances, and precision balances. For example, the UYA 5Y ultra-microbalance boasts a reading unit as low as 0.1 μg and a weighing range of up to 6.1 g. The MYA 5Y microbalance offers a reading unit of 1 μg and a weighing range of up to 52 g. In comparison, the XA 5Y.M.A microbalance provides a reading unit of 0.01 mg and a weighing range of up to 53 g. The XA 5Y.A analytical balance has a reading unit of 0.01 mg and a minimum weight of 10 mg.
Each balance is equipped to meet specific application needs, ensuring precision and accuracy across various laboratory tasks. View the video:

Purge Function Enhances Density Meter Cleaning
Special attention is needed when it comes to cleaning the measurement cell and tubing of oscillation type density meters after the measurement of viscous or otherwise hard to remove samples. In addition to liquid cleaning operations that use solvents such as water and ethanol, Kyoto Electronics Manufacturing’s DA-800 series of density meters also employ a ‘Purge’ operation, that helps evacuate sample matter from the cell and tubing by directing air through the system. This Purge function is very useful in a number of scenarios.
Viscous and otherwise hard to clean samples are difficult to remove with a single cycle of liquid cleansing, requiring extra time and solvent for their full discharge. You can decrease this time by using the Purge function following measurement to expel sample from the system in preparation for cleansing with solvent. This will also help you to reduce the amount of solvent you use, benefiting the environment and your wallet alike.
In some applications, it is desirable to perform post-measurement cleaning using sample liquid instead of solvent cleansers. In doing so though, you risk contaminating your next measurement specimen with that of the sample liquid used for washing. Using the Purge function following the liquid clean in this scenario will virtually eliminate the risk for contamination.
Kyoto Electronics Manufacturing’s DA-800 Density Meter family will save you precious time and money, so that your laboratory can operate with higher efficiency. More information online:
