Ovens, Furnaces and Heating Equipment Clean Steam Boiler meets HTM 2031 Standard
A Clean Steam boiler, claimed by Fulton to be the first self contained electrically powered unit manufactured in the UK, has been specifically designed to provide clean steam to the recommendations of HTM 2031.
The new boiler complies with current EC directives stating that pyrogen free steam is now essential for the manufacture of medical devices/products and sterilisation services.
When medical equipment and products are sterilised using steam, water droplets, which can contain pyrogens, are left on the surface of the sterilised load as it cools. If the equipment is used for invasive surgery this can lead to post-operative infections.
Cleaning up the steam produced from conventional boiler plants can be very expensive, is not always successful and requires a high level of service monitoring and maintenance. Independent Clean Steam generation is the future.
The Fulton Clean Steam boiler is based upon the proven Fulton EFS flash steam boiler and is designed for high demand, short term peak loads of up to 300 kg/h.
The boiler is manufactured from 316 stainless steel and all internal surfaces are passivated to provide a corrosion resistant surface. The boiler is designed to operate in conjunction with RO quality water, which is preheated in a temperature controlled feedwater tank to ensure that the feedwater non-condensable gases are reduced to a minimum and bacterial growth is prevented.
The tank is fitted with temperature and level alarms with interlocks to shut down the boiler should significant temperature variations be detected. The Clean Steam boiler uses 24V AC control circuits and provides indication and volt free contacts for all alarm conditions. The boiler is supplied with a standby pressure control system to maintain it at sterile, low-pressure conditions when not in use.
A spokesman for Fulton says the company’s extensive experience in steam generation has enabled it to offer hospitals a reliable, high performance Clean Steam boiler based on proven technology. He adds that a number of the new boilers have already been installed in NHS and private hospitals in the UK and Europe with steam quality validated to HM2031.

500ºF Electric Class 100 Cleanroom Oven
No. 849 is a 500ºF electrically-heated, Class 100 cleanroom oven from Grieve, currently used for drying various glass and stainless steel parts at a customer’s facility.
Workspace dimensions of this oven measure 36” wide x 36” long x 39” high. 20KW installed in Incoloy-sheathed tubular heating elements provide the heat, while a 1000 CFM, 1 ½-HP recirculating blower furnishes horizontal airflow across the workloads.
This Grieve cleanroom oven features 4” insulated walls, a Type 304, 2B finish stainless steel interior with continuously backwelded seams, stainless steel exterior with #4 brushed finish and an 8” x 10” double-pane Pyrex window.
Cleanroom safety and control equipment on No. 849 include a 30” x 24” x 6” thick stainless steel, high-temperature HEPA air filter, minihelic pressure gauge and DOP validation port across the filter, digital indicating temperature controller, manual reset excess temperature controller with separate contactors, recirculating blower airflow safety switch and digital shut down timer to sound an alarm.
30917pr@reply-direct.com Precise High Temperature Synthesis Advances Nanomaterial Research
Asynt reports on how the School of Chemistry at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia has invested in a range of its DrySyn MULTI heating block systems to support its ground breaking synthetic research in photovoltaics, water splitting and nanoimaging.
In order to improve safety in his laboratories, Leone Spiccia, Professor of Chemistry at Monash University sought laboratory apparatus to replace oil bath systems traditionally used for all general syntheses.
He commented: “After a lengthy evaluation process we decided to switch to DrySyn heating block systems as they are inherently safer to use than heated oil baths, avoiding the risk of oil spillage that can lead to burns when hot or may cause someone to slip over.”
Professor Spiccia added: “We are using DrySyn products inside our nanoimaging team. As part of this research we synthesise nanoparticles based on lanthanides – for which we must reach high temperatures (> 300°C). For this work, we need to have precise fine control of both the final temperature and the heating speed together with a good heat transfer to obtain good quality particles with a narrow size distribution. We could not use an oil bath because
of the high temperatures and heating mantles cannot provide the control we needed for the synthesis, so DrySyn has been really important to us to achieve good research results.”
The DrySyn MULTI from Asynt provides a safe and convenient way to perform precisely controlled heated reactions in parallel. Affordably priced, the DrySyn MULTI converts any standard hotplate stirrer into a reaction block accommodating three flasks or up to 12 reactions in tubes or vials. Made of chemically resistant, anodised aluminium, DrySyn MULTI heating blocks offer excellent heating performance to over 300ºC and can heat a reaction flask 25% faster than an oil bath.

Extensive Histology Range updated with new Paraffi n Section Flotation Bath
The Bibby Scientific brand Electrothermal is updating its Histology range with a new paraffin section flotation bath. The new bath makes the manipulation and placement of paraffin wax sections onto glass slides both simple and efficient. With its user-friendly design and optimised performance, it builds on the success of Electrothermal’s original appliance and continues the brands legacy of robust, safe, and efficient laboratory equipment.
The Paraffin Section Flotation Bath benefits from a PTFE black interior, which provides high contrast for easy viewing of samples. Virtually maintenance- free and simple to clean, it delivers ultimate ease of use and reliability. The bath also has improved heat-up rates (raising 2.25 litres of water to a nominal temperature of 45˚C in just 40 minutes), and enhanced temperature stability of ± 0.5˚C. These improved levels of control also prevent overheating and lower the risk of damaging samples. In this way, users can not only prepare slides for viewing in a shorter timeframe, but can have upmost confidence in the safe handling of their biological materials.
Electrothermal is one of the few manufacturers who can deliver a comprehensive range of Histology products. On top of the new Paraffin Section Flotation Bath, the range also includes a paraffin wax dispenser and slide drying bench, meaning laboratories can equip themselves with a comprehensive solution for their application.
