New Vacuum Pumping Units with Electronic Control

Diaphragm pumps are the number one choice among the established vacuum pump technologies thanks to their high chemical resistance, oil-free operation and the possibility of solvent recovery (optional). Vacuubrand offers complete pumping unit solutions equipped with the latest Vacuubrand vacuum controller CVC 3000 in three vacuum performance ranges. Vacuubrand has launched the new PC series offering a variety of ultimate vacuum levels and different vacuum control options. The PC 500 NT and PC 600 NT series control the vacuum using conventional two-point control via an in-line solenoid valve. The PC 600 NT series with an ultimate vacuum down to 1.5 mbar is perfectly suited for applications with high-boiling-point solvents. Both series offer the advantage of models capable of simultaneous operation of two separate applications with only one pump. The PC 3000 VARIO series pumping units use frequency controlled pumps to provide fully automatic boiling point detection by continuously adjusting the volume flow rate to the changing process conditions. Depending on the pump configuration, an ultimate vacuum down to 0.6 mbar can be achieved.

The new pump models have a compact patented drive system for uniquely quiet and low-vibration operation and smooth surfaces for easy maintenance and cleaning. No wonder this innovative design is setting new visual standards with an all new flame-resistant plastic housing meeting the highest requirements for chemical laboratories, these pumps are ideally suited for the wide range of applications with aggressive gases and solvent vapours found within the laboratory.

Mass Flow Meters Helps Brewer Keep its Head

ADVERTORIAL

Diaphragm Pumps for Air, Gas and Vapours

Diaphragm pumps were first added to the KNF product range in 1962, and since then, KNF have consistently set new standards for pump technology – not just because they could, but because their customers wanted them to.

The products are ideal for a wide range of applications, from chemical and process engineering to medical equipment and laboratories. KNFLab is a division of KNF Neuberger dedicated to the specific needs of laboratory customers.

The Max-Trak 180 mass flow meter from the Sierra Instruments range distributed by Litre Meter has been selected by Orval Brewery to help it get exactly the right amount of head on its famous Trappiste beers.

The Max Trak 180 was selected because it allows precise accuracy and repeatability, remote monitoring and offers rugged wash down protection. The Sierra Max Trak 180 already has a proven track record in the brewing industry being used by Heineken, Europe’s largest brewers.

Sierra’s Max Trak 180 mass flow meter was chosen because it is robust enough to work in factory conditions but allows accurate measurement and control of air and gas. It is being used by Orval to precisely measure the injection of nitrogen into its beer to create the perfect head. In addition, the brewery is making use of the meter’s Dial-A-Gas®

capability to

achieve optimum aeration during fermentation, making it integral to the brewing process.

Sierra’s state-of-the-art Dial-A-Gas® uses an internal

microprocessor which is pre-programmed with ten gases that are commonly used in biotech, pharmaceutical, analytical and research applications – others gases can be substituted to customise the flowmeter for specialist applications. This technology allows the instrument to be used for multiple applications, creating great flexibility as well as helping to reduce spares inventory.

In applications like beverage processing where frequent wash-down/hose-down is required, Max- Trak outperforms the competition as it conforms to the rigorous requirements of NEMA 6 and IP67. Reliability and instrument stability result from an inherently linear design, advanced platinum sensor technology and a valve that accepts variations in process conditions.

Max-Trak controls gas mass flow from 10 to 1000 standard litres per minute. It has a repeatability of +/-0.2%, which ensures a stable process even under changing conditions. Its direct valve design means that operation at low differential pressures is possible.

Circle no. 558 The Liquiport® The Liquiport® Diaphragm Pump

From KNF, Designed for the Modern Laboratory

is the latest KNF diaphragm pump,

which has been designed for industry and laboratory: it is a multi-purpose liquid pump ideal for aspirating or transferring liquids. There are two sizes of pumps with flow rates, which can be adjusted between 0.2 and 3 l/min and suitable for system pressures up to 6 bar.

Thanks to the diaphragm technology and the use of specialised materials (PP, PVDF, PTFE, FFPM) the pump has a very high chemical resistance and can thus be used with virtually every liquid.

The pump has of course all of the advantages of the diaphragm pump technology which means they are self-priming, can be run dry, need little maintenance and have a long life. The combination of functionality, attractive design and user friendly controls make the Liquiport® highlight of modern laboratory equipment.
