Laboratory Products 15 The Ultimate General Laboratory Bottle

The 2070 Reagent bottle from Simax Glass is the answer to all your laboratory liquid storage needs. Made exclusively in the EU from I.S.O. 3585 certified borosilicate 3.3 glass, these high quality reagent bottles feature excellent chemical properties with a high thermal resistance. Available in 8 sizes ranging from 100ml to 20,000ml, all bottles have the same screw thread (GL45), interchangeable blue plastic pouring ring and screw cap which allow accurate transfer of liquids. All blue plastic caps and pouring rings can be frozen to -40ºC and are heat resistant to 140ºC. Alternative red cap and pouring rings are heat resistant up to 200ºC.

The Simax reagent bottles are suitable for use in areas with the highest heat and chemical stability requirements as well as neutrality to substances or preparations the glass is in contact with. Simax reagent bottles are typically used in the research, education, chemistry, petro chemistry, food technology, health services, microbiology and pharmaceutical arenas. All Simax reagent bottles comply with I.S.O. 4796 standard and all sizes are also available in UV resistant amber glass. The Simax Reagent bottles are available on request with a polymer coating for extra safety in the laboratory environment.

High Resolution Near-Infrared Spectrometer Covers 1100-1900nm

Ocean Optics has added another option to its small-footprint near-infrared spectrometer line with the NIRQuest512-1.9. A high-resolution device with response from 1100-1900nm, NIRQuest512-1.9 is well suited for applications ranging from monitoring changes in food production and chemical processing to characterising lasers for semiconductor assembly and medical treatment.

NIRQuest512-1.9 has a high-stability, 512-element Hamamatsu Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs)-array detector and is available with multiple grating and optical bench options for optimising performance between 1100-1900 nm. The standard NIRQuest512-1.9 comes with a 150 lines/mm grating, 25 micron entrance slit and a non-fluorescing longpass filter that transmits >1000nm. The filter helps to mitigate second-order effects.

NIRQuest512-1.9 has external hardware triggering functions that allow users to capture data when an external event occurs, or to trigger an event after data acquisition. Spectrometer operation is controlled using SpectraSuite software, a modular, Java-based spectroscopy platform.

The low dark noise characteristics of the NIRQuest make it possible to integrate the spectrometer (or expose the detector in the spectrometer to light) for longer durations, which is useful in low light level environments. Signal to noise ratio at full signal is >15000:1 at 100 millisecond integration time. High gain mode operation is available for applications where sensitivity is paramount.

ADVERTORIAL Nitrosamines in Malting Solutions

In brewing barley undergoes a malting process, the grain if first drenched to make it germinate and then dried in kilns to capture the sugar and flavour compounds for the brewing process. The heating in the kilns can cause the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamine compounds in the grain and these can then potentially be passed on to the final brewed product. It is therefore essential that any malt used in brewing is checked for nitrosamine levels.

The 800 Series Thermal Energy Analyser (TEA) has been an industry standard for nitrosamine analysis since its introduction thanks to its incredible sensitivity and almost infinite selectivity for nitrogen containing compounds. The 800 Series TEA can be interfaced with most common GCs.

Permeation Break Through Analyser

Gloves, overalls, protective clothing all need testing for their resistance to breakdown under chemical attack. The standard test for this is to place a sample of the material in a cell which allows the challenge chemical to be in contact with one face of the material and a sample gas to be passed across the other face.

The sample gas can then be analysed for the amount of the attack chemical passing through the material. A number of analyses are then plotted over a period of time.

Ellutia have created a fully automated permeation break through analysis system. The system fully automates the analysis of up to 10 cells. Plotting graphs and reports via custom software tailored to the customer's individual needs.

This custom solution is just one example of the type of specially engineered chromatography system Ellutia can design and supply.
