UHPLC Solution Combined with Advanced Autosampler Delivers Numerous Benefits

Shimadzu UK’s next-generation Nexera UHPLC system offers a number of ultra-high performance benefits including the lowest carryover, highest pressure rating, shortest autosampler cycle time and the highest injection volume precision, all with the flexibility of Open Access. The combined benefits lower the system’s Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while delivering the highest level of productivity gains required by the

most demanding application markets such as the pharmaceutical and food industries. The system is capable of running at high throughput with a 2300-plus sample capacity.

Offering precise solvent delivery, excellent reproducibility and near-zero carryover the Nexera UHPLC system is a green LC and ensures fully reliable ultra-high speed and ultra-high resolution analysis in all application fields. Shimadzu’s Nexera is a supremely flexible system and allows users to perform high-temperature analysis, automatic sample pretreatment and multidimensional LC separation.

Coupled with Shimadzu’s SIL-30ACMP autosampler, the Nexera UHPLC system offers the tightest integration with AB Sciex and Thermo Fisher mass spectrometry platforms.

The SIL-30ACMP autosampler enables lower carryover performance and shorter cycle times than competitor systems.

“The Nexera UHPLC solution supported by the SIL-30ACMP autosampler is ideal for all users struggling with carryover problems causing re-analysis of samples and inducing extra costs. The faster autosampler helps minimise cycle times thereby enhancing the return on investment (ROI) of the LC- MS/MS system,” explained Stuart Phillips, Shimadzu UK’s LC/LCMS Business Manager. “The solution is also appealing for users of AB Sciex and Thermo Fisher Mass Spectrometers who either do not have a UHPLC capability or are struggling to integrate their existing HPLC or UHPLC systems with AB Sciex’s Analyst software or Thermo Fisher’s XCalibur software. Our no-compromise solution curbs the higher cost of analysis associated with lost runs when communications have failed and also removes the unnecessary complexity and system costs that some users face when they need to use more than one software platform to reliably run their LC-MS/MS system.”

XRF Spectrometer for Advanced Materials Characterisation

Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc announced the new Thermo Scientific ARL PERFORM’X X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer for advanced materials characterisation. The ARL PERFORM’X integrates bulk elemental analysis capabilities with mapping and small spot analysis to create a solution that offers unmatched versatility and performance for the analysis of any solid or liquid sample.

The ARL PERFORM’X is a highly precise system offering users a choice of analysed area size from 35mm to 0.5mm. As well as measuring the standard chemical composition of samples, the system facilitates elemental small spot analysis enabling analysts to pinpoint focus on specimen sections as small as 0.5 mm, significantly improving the versatility of analyses. The instrument’s advanced X-ray mapping and sample visualisation capabilities also enable users to identify and characterise inhomogeneities, such as elemental inclusions, defects and gradients in samples previously unidentifiable. The ARL PERFORM’X has the capacity to handle samples of many sizes and types including solids, liquids, powders and thin films, providing laboratories with unrivalled versatility that outperforms other solutions.

Designed for analytical laboratories in areas as diverse as geochemistry, chemical, petrochemical, materials science, contract laboratories and process control, the system’s speed, reliability and flexibility make it ideally suited to solving composition problems in demanding industrial process and quality applications.

With dual sample loading the ARL PERFORM’X is able to process more than 60 samples per hour in a typical multi-element analysis case, offering rapid and precise analysis of up to 84 elements. The system also provides the highest standards of safety with an innovative sample recognition capability that ensures easy and safe loading of solids and liquids. In addition, the instrument offers unrivalled long-term stability and repeatability of results. The ARL PERFORM’X comes as standard with the latest version of the Thermo Scientific OXSAS software. OXSAS is an easy-to-use software solution that improves productivity through its rapid and highly accurate reporting features. Users also benefit from a synoptic panel that mimics real-time operation and internal functioning of the instrument on a separate display screen enabling users to visually monitor the status of their analyses.

Time Saving Smart Products Added to Portfolio

SmartBuffers and SmartReagents are among the Medicago products now distributed in the UK exclusively by Cambio. Founded in Uppsala, Sweden, Medicago AB specialises in the design, development and manufacture of high quality research bio-reagents as well as diagnostic and biochemical kits. Cambio also offers Medicago Absolute Lectins, Immuno Reagents and Bioactive Proteins.

Preparation of biological buffers in research and clinical laboratories is often perceived as tedious and error-prone. Manufactured in a controlled clean environment using highly purified, analytical-grade chemicals, Medicago’s SmartBuffers are supplied as precisely pre- weighed tablets or powder pouches with given concentration and pre-set pH. Preparation is as simple as dissolving one tablet or the contents of one pouch in the specified volume of deionised water, saving time and eliminating errors in calculation, formulation and weighing. These products are very much easier to store than litres of made-up buffer, while a long shelf life of at least three years is another significant advantage.

Medicago SmartReagents are also available as pre-weighed tablets or powders with the highest quality and purity, making them ideal for standardising laboratory work. Ready to use in minutes, this range of reagents and biochemicals are suitable for numerous life science and biotechnology applications.

Medicago is a primary manufacturer of a wide variety of exceptionally pure Absolute Lectins. They are purified by affinity chromatography and supplied as freeze-dried powder or as a solution manufactured under aseptic conditions. The Immuno Reagents range covers monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, antigens from bacteria, parasites and other sources, plus synthetically manufactured antigens and antigen analogues. Medicago’s Bioactive Proteins include Calmodulin, the calcium-binding protein, and other custom-made proteins. All are provided as freeze-dried powders manufactured following GMP procedures.

As an enthusiastic, forward-looking company serving the life science research, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, Medicago complements the Cambio portfolio of cutting-edge products for the discerning molecular biologist.

New Range of Linear Guides

Reliance Precision Mechatronics is proud to unveil a new range of linear guide ways and slides. With standard rail sizes from 3mm to 42mm combined with an unrivalled choice of carriage configurations, Reliance have a linear rail solution to suit your requirements.

The reinforced high integrity carriage construction is designed for high speed running, where bidirectional forces are minimised and impact stresses absorbed in order to keep up with the ever increasing demands of the automation industry.

Manufactured from stainless steel, the design incorporates a 45 degree contact angle, meaning an equal load carrying capacity in all directions. Large recirculating balls designed into the smallest space enhance stiffness and torsional resistance, thus catering for high loads and moment loading. Available with a choice of carriage and rail sealing systems, reinforcement plate options and lubrication systems, Reliance’s linear guides are among the most advanced on the market today.
