Lens Adapter Doubles Field-Of-View Throughout Zoom Range

Phenomenex, Inc announces the publication of a case study, written by scientists at Pfizer, that demonstrates the results of a new method for residual API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) analysis.

This new solution replaces 16 older methods for individual key ingredients, and has delivered cost savings of £320,000 (more than $516,000) per year. The method requires just one UHPLC instrument, using Phenomenex Kinetex®

1.7-micron

core-shell columns, to resolve all 16 ingredients in just six minutes. In addition to instrument and time-savings, the method uses less solvent, reduces waste disposal costs and frees up lab analysts.

“High-volume laboratories, such as those in pharmaceutical QC, have an acute need to reduce operating costs and free up resources,” explained Jeremy Bierman, Brand Manager for HPLC products. “The Kinetex core-shell technology allows the development of faster and more efficient analytical methods to deliver significant cost and time savings.”

The Kinetex 1.7-micron column is the first and only sub-2- micron core-shell UHPLC column on the market and typically delivers efficiency gains of 15 to 20% over traditional fully porous sub-2-micron columns.

The Hiden CATLAB thermal microreactor system is just released with the new CATsoft LabVIEWbased operating program to further optimise and simplify operation in both Quality Control and R&D applications.

Designed for precise characterisation of catalytic and of

general thermal reaction studies, the system features a 1000°C fast response furnace with integrated mass spectrometer and is fully programmable for both automated and manual operation with the CATsoft program controlling furnace temperature and ramp rate, gas stream selection and flow rates from up to eight gas streams, mass spectrometer function and data processing. The benchtop CATLAB integrated system is uniquely manufactured by a single company with in excess of 20 years proven expertise in both thermal analysis and in mass spectrometry.

The Model 287 Wide Angle Lens Adapter from Resolve Optics Ltd is designed to double the field of view (FOV) throughout the zoom range of any zoom camera.

To date all 'off the shelf' wide angle adapters have offered a compromise between FOV, distortion and resolution. If the lens achieves the FOV and minimal distortion then the compromise will be the resolution and so on. The result often is 'milky' out of focus images that get progressively worse the nearer you get to full zoom.

For the first time a wide angle lens adapter is available that provides a true 0.5x field of view (FOV) whilst maintaining minimal distortion and high resolution throughout the zoom range of your camera.

The compromise free performance of the Model 287 was achieved by designing the adapter to work with the moving pupils of zoom lenses.

Fast and Precise Automatic Tissue Slicing without Embedding or Freezing

Warner Instruments is pleased to introduce the new OTS 5000 Automatic Oscillating Tissue Slicer, the solution for sectioning fixed or fresh tissue.

Engineered for maximum stability, the OTS 5000 slicer head minimises Z-Axis vibration, allowing for even the most delicate tissue to be cut successfully every time.

The OTS-5000 features a user programmable cutting window to minimise time between harvesting consecutive slices, allowing the section-cutting range of the blade to be customised to the specimen sample. Section samples in two different modes: Slice one section at a time, altering tissue thickness between manually triggered passes. Or, automatically perform multiple uniform slices. The OTS-5000 is also available with a Refrigerated Controller and Tray to maintain tissue temperature between 0-10°C.

Its unique design combined with the use of specialised high index glasses carefully balances the provision of a low distortion wide angle view with the higher level of correction needed at the narrow angles of view.

The result is a high quality lens that has an unprecedented full 'zoom through' capability resulting in high contrast images regardless of zoom position whilst still maintaining both resolution and focus to the very edges of the image.

Aimed at the broadcast and high-end medical/industrial market each production lens adapter is individually collimated to maintain the full focus range of the prime lens. Incorporating an M37 mounting thread the Resolve Optics wide angle adapter will enable many zoom lens / camera combinations with a standard 45 degree FOV to achieve a genuine 90 degree field of view.

The Ultimate Starter Flow Chemistry System

Chemistry automation product innovator, Syrris offers the Asia range of flow chemistry systems for performing a wide variety of chemical reactions. The portfolio includes the Asia 110 system, ideal for customers who demand high quality but have limited budgets. The Asia 110 is an excellent value, easy to use system that is ideal for beginners in solution phase flow chemistry.

This very compact system combines the high performance of an Asia Pump, an Asia Chip Climate Controller, a glass microreactor (‘chip’) and an Asia Pressure Controller. The Asia Pump is extremely chemically resistant and designed specifically for flow chemistry. It has two continuous pumps for delivering smooth flow from 1µL/min to 10mL/min. The pump has an integrated Pressure Sensor, which allows it to automatically stop in the case of a blockages or leak.

The Asia 110 system includes one or many glass microreactors that offer excellent mixing, easy visualisation of the reaction and maximum chemical resistance. The Asia Chip Climate Controller enables the microreactors to be heated from -15 to +150ºC without the need for a circulator or a cold water supply. The Asia Pressure controller enables ultra fast reaction rates; the pressure controller automatically regulates a laboratory gas supply to pressurise the reaction up to 20 bar.

The Asia 110 System can be upgraded to include automated collection, use of solid phase reagents, temperatures up to 250ºC, kg synthesis, analysis integration, flow liquid-liquid extraction and full software control.
