Jumbo Size Sample Preparation for New
E.Coli Testing Protocols Seward Ltd, manufacturer and developer of the world leading, patented Stomacher®
Paddle Blender range, announces a highly successful year for sales of its Stomacher® 3500
large volume sample preparation systems. This follows recent changes to USDA Escherichia coli 0157:H7 testing protocols, where an expanded description of how its Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS) confirms and reports on this virulent food pathogen was published.
All meat products consumed (whether locally produced or exported) within the US must have undergone the recently renewed FSIS
E.coli 0157:H7 testing protocols. Within these, the volume of sample and diluents has been increased to 125g of food sample in 1.25L broth to maximise the opportunity for pathogen detection. Detailed within the revised Laboratory Guidebook chapter on ‘Detection, Isolation and Identification of Escherichia coli O157:H7 from Meat Products’, a Stomacher 3500 is used for the sample preparation of varying quantities and types of meat sample. The Stomacher 3500 range, including Stomacher bags, is available specifically for large volume (400ml to 3.5L) blending and extraction, where all the washing solution or solvent is required to be retained for microbiological analysis. “The Stomacher 3500 is unrivalled in the market of large volume sample blending and extraction, making it ideal for routine sample preparation of a variety of products for microbiological testing,” said Stuart Ray, Technical Director, Seward. “This is due to its quality, robust components which make it extremely durable, even when processing the largest and toughest of samples. In fact we have examples of these large systems still going strong after 20 years of hard service in many industrial settings.”

I-Class System, the highest performing UPLC®
system ever engineered taking UltraPerformance LC®
separations technology to the next level. For scientists
challenged by the most difficult separations, the Acquity UPLC I-Class features the lowest system dispersion and lowest carryover in the industry today. Low dispersion maximises peak capacity thereby advancing chromatographic separations and optimising the performance of any mass spectrometer.
Keeping pace with today's most advanced laboratories, the Acquity UPLC I-Class System excels when analysing complex, sample-limited compounds. Sample-limited compounds include high potency medications, trace levels of food or water contamination, and (advanced) sophisticated biotherapeutics. These samples can represent complex separation challenges requiring an LC system that can maximise the benefits of sub-two-micron for faster throughput and optimised MS performance. While there are many innovations built into the new Acquity UPLC I-Class, minimal system volume is a new key feature. Reduced system volume significantly decreases dispersion rates for reproducibly higher resolution and superior peak capacity. Reduced dispersion and small peak volumes extend the sensitivity of any mass spectrometer. Additionally, low dispersion footprint allows users to reduce their separation cycle times without impact to the separation as resolution is maintained even for ballistic gradients lasting less than one minute. Also importantly, new design and materials dramatically reduce sample carryover effects, thus increasing user confidence in results. The Acquity UPLC I-Class also features class leading flexibility and precise sampling capabilities. Depending on application needs, users can choose either the highest precision and lowest dispersion fixed-loop Sample Manager, or the world's first low dispersion variable volume Sample Manager with a flow-through needle design, which delivers high-precision injections, excellent sample recovery, and lowest sample carryover optimising the performance for even the most sensitive mass detectors.

Instrument Systems Delivers 1000th Cas 140ct
In delivering the 1000th Array Spectrometer of the CAS 140CT series, Instrument Systems proves that this system has set a worldwide standard and reconfirms the market leadership in LED-measurement technology. In addition to this main field of application the CAS 140CT is also used in display measurement, as well as for tasks in the common spectral analysis.
Equipped with high-performance detectors plus optical and electronic components, seven models of the CAS140 CT cover a spectral range from 200nm to 2160 nm. In combination with optimised control electronics, the new spectrometer technology permits precise acquisition and evaluation of spectra within a few milliseconds. The CAS140 CT is therefore the perfect solution to meet all requirements in R&D and production settings.
The Instrument Systems Array Spectrometer is widely used by all notable LED producers, in photometric laboratories, in the automotive industry and by mobile phone manufacturers. The CAS140 CT is equipped with a USB interface as standard and can easily be operated from a notebook. A PCI interface card is supplied as an option for integration in fast production test systems. Various software solutions from Instrument Systems are available for controlling the CAS 140 CT and evaluating the test results.
