Water / Wastewater 23 Air Pressure and Relative Humidity Trends:
Observations revealed a downward trend in air pressure corresponding to methane values. This trend suggests a potential hindrance to gas escape in denser air. Similarly, relative humidity exhibited a weak downward trend, hinting at possible impediments to gas release due to higher humidity levels.
Conclusions
The case study provides insights into the complex interplay between methane emissions and meteorological variables at the Berlin wastewater facility. While some correlations were identifi ed, uncertainties and fl uctuations necessitate further research to refi ne models and better understand the factors infl uencing methane release. The fi ndings underscore the importance of considering multiple variables when assessing emissions from wastewater facilities for effective environmental management.
Next steps:
The study is still ongoing and in February we plan to expand our investigations to include two more sites equipped with methane sensors. We will use a triangulation method developed by the DEUS Scientifi c expert group to accurately measure and analyze methane emissions. In doing so, we aim to increase the accuracy of our results and gain a more comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of methane release from wastewater treatment plants.

Shallow water oxygen OEM meter for convenient and fast deployment
Corrosion-resistant conductivity level logger
The Levelogger 5 LTC, from Solinst, continuously measures and logs water level fl uctuations, temperature and conductivity. It is simply programmed using Levelogger PC Software to record at intervals as often as 2 seconds. Event- based and customised scheduled samplings are also options.
The Levelogger 5 LTC offers a number of useful features, including an 8-year battery life, memory for 100,000 sets of readings, and 6 pressure ranges. A PFAS-free coating baked on using polymerization technology (inside and out) provides superior corrosion and abrasion resistance.
The 4-electrode platinum conductivity sensor has a wide calibrated conductivity range, with auto-ranging from 0 to 100,000 µS/cm. For the highest accuracy, calibration is from 50 to 80,000 µS/cm. Ideal for providing a general indication of water quality.

Pyroscience recently launched the APHOx-S-O2, a compact underwater sensor for dissolved oxygen measurement in shallow water. The device uses a robust optical principle based on an oxygen-sensitive luminescent dye, and is factory calibrated for temperature-compensated oxygen measurements.
Designed specifi cally for measurements in aquacultures and surface waters, the APHOx- S-O2 features a corrosion and biofouling-resistant copper alloy housing, which enables operation at up to 50 meters depth. The meter also provides an RS485 interface and 4 analogue outputs (2x 4-20 mA. 2x 0-5V) for easy integration into various control systems.
With its innovative REDFLASH technology, the APHOx-S-O2 impresses with its high precision, high reliability, low cross-sensitivity, and fast response times. The REDFLASH sensor materials are activated with red light and show an analyte- dependent luminescence in the near-infrared (NIR) range, which signifi cantly reduces interference caused by auto-fl uorescent samples.
In addition to the digital interface and protocol, a broadcast mode can be confi gured where the device measures in a pre-defi ned interval and provides real- time measurement results at the analogue outputs, without requiring digital communication.
