Gas Detection 15

Gas detection series simplifi es refrigerant safety compliance

Bacharach announces the introduction of the MGS- 400 Gas Detection Series for commercial and industrial refrigerant and gas leak detection applications.

The MGS-400 gas detectors support safety compliance inside of machinery rooms, mechanical equipment rooms, chiller plants, cold storage facilities and walk-in freezers by monitoring for dangerous refrigerant leaks for numerous gases including HFCs, HFOs, HCFCs, CO2, and NH3 (ammonia). The ability to detect refrigerant leaks and quickly initiate alarm systems helps to protect personnel and achieve compliance with safety standards like ASHRAE 15, CSA-B52 and EN 378.

MGS-400 Gas Detectors are supported by a mobile app user interface, making confi guration, calibration, and maintenance simple and intuitive. Reducing commissioning and installation time, the MGS-400 delivers on effi ciency and cost savings while allowing for plug-and-play, pre- calibrated sensor installation and replacement in the fi eld. Using the mobile app and plug and play sensors, gas detectors are installed in signifi cantly less time, for example, 5 minutes vs 25 minutes per detector without training. Calibration certifi cates can be generated from the mobile app and sent by email or shared to cloud storage platforms.

The optional MGS-408 Gas Detection Controller supports up to eight sensor channels and enables a centralized alarm and power system. With Modbus connectivity, the controller integrates with any facility’s existing building management or automation system. The MGS-408 also connects with Bacharach’s MGS-250 IR-based refrigerant monitor and the dual-sensor MGS-550, allowing for fl exibility of individual site requirements. Power and communication connectivity from the controller to all sensors can be done with a single cable in a daisy-chain design.

Exclusive, global distribution agreement for award winning piezoelectric gas detection, monitoring and analysis pump

ION Science has confi rmed an exclusive agreement with TTP Ventus to distribute its award-winning Disc Pump™ to the global gas detection market. The micropump platform offers a wide range of innovative features designed to deliver ultrafast millisecond response and more sensitive detection of gases including volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

An excellent fi t with Ion Science’s market-leading photoionisation detection sensors (PIDs), the lightweight TTP Ventus piezoelectric pump offers key features for the gas detection, monitoring, analysis and sampling industries including silent, vibration-free operation, exceptional pressure and fl ow, true pulsation-free fl ow, fast response to set-point changes, high precision controllability and resistant to magnetic fi elds.

These benefi t many applications by allowing, simpler instrument design – especially for chromatographic systems, lower limits of detection, real time capability to respond to trigger conditions, intermittent sampling against pressurised lines, and improved user experience in wearable applications.

The agreement between the two hi-tech businesses covers two Disc Pump product lines: the XP Series provides a combination of performance and effi ciency benefi ts with a wide temperature range from -25 up to 55°C for supporting the most demanding applications whilst the BL Series is a lower cost, entry-level version.

Tom Harrison, Business Development Manager at TTP Ventus comments: “We are excited to partner with Ion Science to offer our Disc Pump to the global gas detection industry. It represents an opportunity to accelerate our growth in this previously untapped market by leveraging Ion Science’s extensive experience, worldwide presence and technological expertise.”

Duncan Johns, Managing Director at Ion Science adds: “The TTP Ventus Disc Pump is truly revolutionary making it an excellent fi t with our well proven MiniPID sensor technology. Offering these complementary products under one roof helps us to respond to the ever increasing demand for rapid, sensitive detection of VOCs. We are confi dent the relationship will be a success and look forward to it further strengthening our position in the global gas detection market.”

The TTP Ventus Disc Pump is already widely used across a range of markets including medical, life science, environmental and defence. It offers two pumping chambers which are confi gured at the point of manufacture either in series for high pressure applications, or parallel for higher fl ow.

Most piezoelectric gas pumps rely on the movement of piezo actuator to compress the gas in a cavity which increases its pressure. Such ‘displacement’ pumps have limited performance because the movement of piezo actuators is very small.

By instead creating a standing wave TTP Ventus is able to deliver much greater pressure and fl ow than traditional piezo pumps. Further, Disc Pump operates at ultrasonic frequencies making it completely silent.

Turning an ultrasound standing wave into useful pumped fl ow requires a highly specialised valve, able to respond in a matter of microseconds. The patent-protected Disc Pump achieves this delivering unrivalled pneumatic performance.

For example, Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring in car parks, residential and fi re detection systems can specifi cally benefi t from our low cost two-electrode CO sensors. Guaranteed to operate continuously for over fi ve years, these sensors are a revolutionary, high performance electrochemical design. Such sensors can actually exceed lifetimes of 10 years in residential environments and are available as a single sensor or with circuitry to provide 4-20mA or digital output. Euro-Gas also offers a TÜV approved package for Carbon Monoxide detection, with conformity to VDI 2053 Standard, developed for underground car park gas detection. This can be purchased as a circuit solution or as a complete fi xed gas detector.

For medical applications, low Hydrogen cross-sensitive CO sensor models are available for the detection of Carbon Monoxide in air. The primary application of these sensors is for breath measurement, where Hydrogen presents an issue as a cross-interferent. Our sensors are at the heart of monitoring instruments in ‘stop smoking’ programmes worldwide.
