duration of contact and the surface of sample gas and water droplets will especially have a major influence. The longer the retention time and the larger the water surface - the higher the wash out ratio of soluble gas components. In contrast, a sufficient retention time is important for transmitting the cooling energy and therefore stabilising the outlet dew point and thus guaranteeing a reliable and stable measurement value. The challenge is to find the perfect retention time for the specific heat exchanger design.
The New MAK 10-Twister has the Lowest Wash-out Rate
The new MAK10-Twister compressor cooler offers exactly this advantage. The cooler has negligible dissolution rates (≤1%) for e.g. SO2
at 65°C inlet dew point and 100 to 300Nl/hr.
readings. Therefore sample gas is cooled down to a stable dew point of e.g. 3°C, water vapour condenses and will be removed continuously. The transition from hot gas phase to cold gas phase, from a technical point of view, is the most demanding step because soluble measuring components like SO2 H2
, NO2
Currently the problem of wash out effects can be minimised by calibration via a wet cooler or with a humid test gas. But this procedure is just a compromise because in case of changing process conditions resp. changing water vapour dew point the quantity of condensate in the cooler is changing and therefore also the wash out ratio. This leads to inaccurate readings, especially at low measuring ranges, and that is exactly where we need to improve.
Reliability and reproducibility of measuring results is an inescapable requirement for the world-wide acceptance of emitting industries and therefore AGT-PSG consider it their job to enable trustworthy emission measurements by delivering Perfect Sample Gas.
The 2 companies AGT and PSG, whose products have been known and established for more than 40 years as a guarantee for reliability and longevity, merged as AGT-PSG in 2016. This combined more than 90 years of experience in the field of gas sampling and gas conditioning in one company

AGT-PSG is the only company worldwide to manufacture the entire range of products for continuous extractive gas analysis in-house. This allows the customer to purchase gas sampling probes, heated sample lines, sample gas coolers, as well as sample gas conditioning systems from a single source, directly from the manufacturer.

A New Approach to Odour Monitoring
Several years ago, Chromatotec developed a new solution to measure levels of the intensity of odour variation called the vigi e-nose. The name of this product was used to compete with other electronic noses (e-noses). E-noses offer a good alternative to dynamic olfactometry measurement to check odour intensity variation. Most of the existing e-noses in the market deploy detection sensors known as Metal Oxide Sensors (MOS).
These technologies provide a global fingerprint using two main principles of detection: non selectivity and cross-interference with humid sensitivity. Some providers try to integrate ‘specific sensors’ such as NH3 or H2S but these sensors are sensitive at ppm levels and cannot reach human nose sensitivity. However, these solutions allow tracking gas variations with additive information in spite of the fact that sensors used are crossed-selective (for example, a non-selective H2S specific sensor is prone to interferences with Mercaptans and ammonia)
Raw data coming from the analysers is calculated and collated by mathematical models using artificial networks or multivariate statistics. This provides results correlated with a reference odour sensory method (as dynamic olfactometry if used according to European standard EN 13725 or ASTM 679 E-4 if US standard is required).
Due to customer non satisfaction with their existing solutions, Chromatotec has developed and deployed their solution initially in municipal Waste Water Treatment Plants in France, UAE and Poland and more recently in sites equipped previously by competitors’ e-noses. Tests were carried out comparing the vigi e-nose favourably with the exisiting e-noses. The revolutionary approach is based on the separation of 14 sulphur compounds, such as H2S, Mercaptans, and Sulphides also including VOC concentration with an all-in-one solution. This turn-key solution offers the capability to reach concentration levels lower than the human nose can detect.
When odour impact measurement is needed, theChromatotec’s latest development of dispersion software development (vigi Odor) allows operators to integrate with standard atmospheric systems such as AERMOD, which is recognised by the USEPA.
News to RAVE about for Air Sampling Canister Users
For More Info, email: email:
Restek Air Valve Excellence (RAVE) is now available for the easy retrofit of 3.2 L, 6 L, and 15 L Entech air sampling canisters. These new RAVE valves have an identical internal design to the incredibly popular and rugged RAVE valves recently released on Restek’s SilcoCan, TO-Can, and miniature air sampling canisters. Operators can upgrade from their TOV and TOV-2 valves, with no modification needed!

Restek Air Valve Excellence (RAVE) brings proven long life, leak-free performance, and effortless operation to your air sampling canisters. This durable design has been engineered to exceed 15,000 cycles and every valve is leak-tested with helium to 1×10-6 mL/sec before it leaves Restek’s facility. The W-type valve seats are work-hardened to enhance damage resistance, while the wetted surfaces contain no moving parts. As convenient, reliable field use is not just about withstanding the rigours of harsh environments, the RAVE valve achieves full closure with a quick twist of the fingers (only 10 in-lb) and is easy to access, even for big hands or when wearing bulky gloves.
Standard on Restek’s full line of SilcoCan, TO-Can, and miniature air sampling canisters, these American-made valves are also ideal for upgrading existing canisters. Rugged stainless steel RAVE valves can be ordered with Siltek®
treatment for added inertness and either 2 or 3 ports to
accommodate an optional gauge. In addition, diaphragm rebuild kits are available to further extend the life of these long-lasting air valves.
