GAS DETECTION Gas Detection
New, advanced Gas Warn Unit provides a gas monitoring system for enhanced industrial safety
Gas Sensors Unveiling advanced PIDX sensors
Alphasense are excited to share the recent launch of their latest innovation, the PIDX line of PID Sensors. The PIDX sensors represent a major advancement in sensor technology, designed to enhance performance and reliability in measuring volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
LogiDataTech is introducing its new GWU gas detection and monitoring system, additionally to the long-standing GWZ-Sx series. Designed for industrial safety, process monitoring, and environmental control, the GWU provides greater confi guration options, expanded connectivity, and features suitable for a wide range of applications.
The compact 9 TE DIN rail module offers four analogue 4–20 mA inputs and four digital 24 VDC inputs for gas sensors and signalling devices. Its outputs include three relays, a fault relay rated for 240 VAC, a 24 VDC maintenance relay, and a dedicated output for buzzers or horns. An RS-485 Modbus-RTU interface allows connection to supervisory control and data acquisition systems, supporting remote monitoring and integration into broader site safety and environmental management systems. Multiple GWUs can be networked to create a single coordinated detection system, enabling coverage across multiple fl oors or between different buildings.
For data retention and reporting, the GWU uses an onboard data logger that records events and measurements onto an optional micro-SD card, enabling long-term storage for performance monitoring and audits.
Confi guration can be done directly on the device using control keys and a graphical LCD display, or through a USB interface with dedicated PC software.
The GWU will be available as either a 9 TE DIN rail module or in a wall-mounted IP65 enclosure with an integrated 24 VDC, 100 W power supply, offering installation options for various industrial and environmental monitoring scenarios.

PIN sensors are essential for various applications, including industrial safety, compliance, and environmental air quality. These sensors are renowned for their ability to detect VOCs at levels ranging from 10,000 part per million (ppm) down to 1 parts per billion (PPB) levels in a compact, cost-effective package. Alphasense has been a leader in PID sensor technology for over 20 years, and the PIDX series marks a signifi cant step forward, incorporating valuable feedback from our customers to improve previous products.
The PIDX sensors feature a patented manufacturing process that ensures repeatable performance across different sensors. This calibration process allows for uniform performance, making it more accurate and easier to integrate into various applications.
The PIDX sensors are equipped with a
photodiode to continuously monitor lamp output. If the lamp’s intensity falls below the required level, the sensor provides fault signals, preventing potential incorrect low VOC readings when a lamp failure exists.
Signifi cant improvements have been made to the PIDX sensors to ensure consistent performance across a wide range of environmental conditions. The sensors are designed to maintain stable readings from 30% to 95% relative humidity, minimising the effects of environmental changes on performance.
The PIDX sensors are optimised for portable handheld applications, boasting the lowest power draw in the industry. With a consistent power draw throughout the supply voltage range, the sensor operates effi ciently with
minimal energy consumption.
PIDX sensors are intrinsically safe and ATEX rated, featuring all necessary components for hazardous environments built into the sensor itself. This design simplifi es the certifi cation process, allowing for straightforward integration without additional external components.
PIDX sensors represent a signifi cant advancement in PID technology, offering superior accuracy and ease of use for OEMs. Alphasense are confi dent that the PIDX will set a new standard in the industry, providing enhanced performance and reliability for VOC measurement.

Personal Gas Detector The most connected safety wearable ever made
Blackline Safety has announced G8, the next evolution of worksite safety and the most connected wearable the company has ever built.
Designed from the ground up as a true platform, G8 combines advanced gas detection, lone worker protection, and radio- quality communication in one rugged device that connects workers to each other, to their safety teams, and to the broader digital worksite - with real-time data streamed to the cloud to keep safety and operations leaders informed.
“G8 gives workers access to the tools and information they need to confi dently get the job done and get home safe,” said Cody Slater, CEO and Chair, Blackline Safety. “By unifying gas detection, real-time monitoring, and communication in one connected device, we’re delivering more than incremental improvement. We’re giving every worker a direct line to the people, data, systems and support they need to make faster, safer decisions.”

G8 builds on the proven foundation of Blackline’s G7 line, while introducing breakthrough capabilities that set a new standard for connected safety and productivity.
At its core, G8 is a fully featured, connected gas detector with a rugged, IP-67 rating that’s built to meet the most demanding industrial environments.
But G8 also goes further, consolidating several critical tools into one intrinsically safe device, so workers no longer need to carry and manage multiple devices. Plus, real-time cloud connectivity so teams get the fi eld data they need to respond faster and keep operations running smoothly.
Safety and situational awareness are enhanced through advanced gas detection with swappable cartridges that cover more than 20 gases, along with comprehensive lone worker protection that monitors falls, lack of motion, health events, physical assaults, and situations where a worker may become trapped or stranded. Dual-band
GNSS/GPS (L1/L5) enables faster time-to- fi rst-fi x and delivers location accuracy within one meter, providing reliable positioning even in challenging environments where GPS alone often struggles. In addition, access to ZoneAware™ geofencing in Blackline Live allows organisations to defi ne site zones, see who is where, identify bottlenecks, and accelerate muster drills.
There are three ways to communicate in emergencies or for everyday productivity, all supported by enhanced speaker and microphone technology. Push-to-Talk provides loud, clear, worldwide radio functionality, allowing crews to communicate across sites, regions, or even countries. Emergency voice calling connects workers directly with a live monitoring agent when an alert is triggered, recognising that nothing replaces a real person in a critical situation. Text messaging enables the sending of pre- set or custom messages and the receipt of mass notifi cations for evacuations, severe weather, and other events. Communication is further strengthened by an internal full-range speaker delivering up to 1W of audio power for loud, clear alerts and voice communication with low distortion, even in noisy industrial environments, with an optional remote speaker microphone offering up to 1.5W output to extend sound capability even further.
Visibility and usability are improved through a 64-colour backlit display that is approximately double the size of Blackline’s G7 display. A refl ective active-matrix TFT LCD with nearly 77,000 pixels enhances at-a-glance visibility of alerts and device status without draining battery life. NFC TagAssign™ enables instant device assignment with a single tap for faster shift starts, while a 35-lumen, easy-access fl ashlight provides reliable visibility in low- light or confi ned spaces.
Every G8 streams live data to Blackline’s data and analytics platform - Blackline Live - via the cloud. This gives safety leaders real-time
visibility into worker status, gas readings, and site conditions, and it gives operations teams actionable insights to prevent incidents, reduce delays, and keep projects moving.
Unlike traditional gas detectors, G8 functions as a connected platform that’s built to be able to integrate with the rest of the digital worksite. It’s future-ready to plug into other digital platforms that organisations use today, from human resource management systems (HRMS) to fi eld service management tools to hot-permitting applications and more, helping eliminate manual workfl ows and remove barriers to getting work done. And because G8 receives automatic fi rmware updates, it will continue to evolve with new capabilities, expanded integrations, and emerging technologies like AI-driven insights.
“We’re talking about a platform built to grow with you,” said Phil Benson, VP, Product, Blackline Safety. “As worksites become more connected, automated and data-driven, G8 has the fl exibility to meet tomorrow’s needs, not just today’s. It lays the foundation for future capabilities like AI integrations, expanded calling features, and predictive analytics that will continue to raise the bar for connected work for years to come.”
G8 is protected by more than a dozen patents with additional patents pending.
