Blackline Safety expands global footprint with new offi ces in Germany and the UAE


on Blackline’s growing presence in the Middle East, following a multi-year purchase agreement with ADNOC.


Blackline Safety has announced plans to open two new international offi ces - one in Cologne, Germany, and another in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The expansion strengthens Blackline’s operations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), bringing the company closer to its rapidly growing customer base in these regions.


Blackline’s Cologne offi ce adds to its established network in the U.K. and France, providing localised presence and coordination for regional sales, service, and customer engagement across Europe and Africa. The Abu Dhabi offi ce will enhance engagement with customers in the energy, utilities, and petrochemical sectors, providing localised training and service. The new facility builds

Welcome back to International Environmental Technology for our fi rst issue of 2026!


In this issue, we’re refl ecting on a common pressure point running through all areas of environmental monitoring: established frameworks are being overwhelmed by the speed and localisation of real-world exposure. Across water, wastewater, indoor air and emissions, systems are being adapted to ensure we are measuring at the right scale and in the right places.


Bathing water monitoring provides one of the clearest examples. Research tested in Helsingborg shows how microbiome-based analysis can reduce detection times from days to minutes. By moving beyond single- indicator organisms such as E. coli, this approach aligns monitoring response with the short-lived contamination events that increasingly defi ne urban bathing waters.


A similar shift is underway in wastewater surveillance. What began as an emergency Covid-era tool is being formalised in the UK as long-term biosecurity infrastructure, with

the UK Health Security Agency expanding pathogen monitoring well beyond polio. This raises new demands for sample design and analytical sensitivity, particularly as attention moves closer to source.


Elsewhere, long-standing blind spots are coming into view. New research on indoor environments suggests that some of the most consequential chemical exposures may be occurring almost entirely out of sight of existing monitoring regimes. At the same time, the release of high-resolution US emissions data through the Vulcan system underlines how emissions accounting is becoming more granular, more data- intensive and more politically signifi cant.


Taken together, these stories point toward a future of continuous, information-rich systems that support rapid decision-making. Join us as we navigate this new era.

New senior global product manager in the gas analysis sector


Servomex, international experts in gas analysis, has appointed Giovanni De Dona as its Senior Global Product Manager. He joins the Purity & Specialty (P&S) gases team at the US Technical Centre in Woburn, Massachusetts.


With extensive experience in analytical instrumentation, hazardous Industrial installations, high-purity water and gas measurements, Giovanni brings a strong background in managing global portfolios of process analysers and sensors. His career includes senior roles at Oxford Instruments, Thermo Fisher Scientifi c, Mettler Toledo, TASI, and Galvanic Applied Sciences, where he successfully developed long-term growth strategies and product roadmaps that drove substantial market competitiveness.


In his new role, Giovanni will be responsible for the SERVOPRO DF-500, DF-700, and MonoExact DF150/DF310 product ranges, with a particular focus on leading efforts in the semiconductor market. Acting as both an internal and external advocate for this sector, Giovanni will work closely with marketing, sales, technical, and operations teams to deliver profi table growth and further strengthen Servomex’s position as a reliable leader in high-purity and specialty gas analysis. Meteor Communications listed in Sunday Times 2026 top 100 tech companies
