44 Flow Level Pressure

Flow Measurement on a Budget – Without Sacrificing Performance

In today’s turbulent economy, the water & wastewater industry must make difficult financial decisions in order to cut costs and remain profitable. But what can really be done to limit expenses without endangering health, safety or the environment? Investing in affordable yet high-quality flow instrumentation is an excellent step – and Siemens can help.

Siemens (USA) offers the SITRANS FST020 clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter, an optimal alternative to more complex flow measurement solutions for the water & wastewater industry. Available at a lower cost than other clamp-on meters, the SITRANS FST020 can perform basic flow functionalities and demonstrates the same high level of performance and reliability as other Siemens flow products.

The SITRANS FST020 features one-channel configuration options that make product selection straightforward, along with RS232 communication and a user-friendly design to ensure easy setup. The meter has an impressive accuracy range of 0.5-1% and can be installed on any pipe size up to DN 9140 (360").

The SITRANS FST020 is ideal for measuring a diverse range of water and wastewater applications, including retrofits and pipes containing corrosive, toxic or high-pressure liquids (e.g. potable water, influent/effluent wastewater, processed sewage and sludge). As the meter can measure practically any clean liquid, it is also appropriate for use by the HVAC, power, chemical and general processing industries. Reader Reply Card No 140 Compact and Light Weight Fuel Flow Meter

Mass Flow ONLINE B.V., an ecommerce channel from Bronkhorst (Netherlands), presents a new liquid flow meter, available via their internet store. FUEL-VIEW is a compact, light weight and very cost-effective solution for measuring the fuel consumption and operating time of vehicles, tractors, river vessels or any mobile or fixed installations with diesel engines. Its unique features for protecting and preventing theft of fuel, the protection against overstatement of readings and intervention and the patented method of measuring different engine operating times makes FUEL-VIEW the best solution on the market today. The instrument offers a local display and has several secure onboard counters that can be operated via the selector magnet as supplied rather than by user contact. The FUEL-VIEW series operate on the principle of a rotary piston. The unique design of the flow meter allows fuel flow, even if the chamber is locked or clogged up. A fuel filter effectively protects the measuring chamber from contamination and can be removed and washed without disassembling the flow meter. FUEL-VIEW flow meters can be supplied in full scale ranges from 50 l/h up to 400 l/h with the standard configuration being a blind meter together with a signal cable. As an option, an LCD display allows reading of actual flow [l/h], total flow consumption [l], total engine operating time [h], engine operating time in ”idling”, “optimal” and “overload” mode. The instruments can work with an external power supply or with an embedded battery.

Latest Industrial Pressure Indicator comes with High-Performing Data Logger Functionality

The JOFRA IPI Mk II, the latest pressure indicator from AMETEK Test & Calibration Instruments (Denmark), combines the ease of an analogue gauge with the accuracy and easy-to-read display of a digital calibrator. Available in 10 different pressure ranges from 1 bar (15 psi) to 700 bar (10,000 psi), there is a unit that is just right for any industrial need. Accurate, portable and versatile, the IPI Mk. II is a true field indicator. The unit is lightweight and portable with full temperature compensation, long battery life and a large display for easy visibility.

The accuracy of the IPI Mk. II (±0.05% F.S.) rivals high-end pressure calibrators, and the unit is temperature compensated for workshop use or in-process applications. The IPI Mk pressure indicator with IPILOG data logging software provides users with a high-performance solution for pressure data logging applications. Whether data from one IPI or many needs to be logged, IPILOG is an easy-to-use and is a low-cost application that can handle all types of requirements.

The IPI Mk. II is ATEX and CSA certified for use in potentially explosive environments such as oil refineries, chemical plants and offshore platforms, where flammable gases are used or stored. Available as a stand-alone indicator or in one of six test-ready systems equipped to meet any pressure measuring or testing needs, when bought as a system, the IPI is delivered ready-to-use, with accessories and carrying case.

Reader Reply Card No 143 Coping With Pressure

The SEN pressure sensors from KOBOLD Messring GmbH (Germany), are very compact and can be used in a variety of applications. The approved measuring principle uses a thick film ceramic measuring cell, has very good repeatability and is very reliable. The automatic temperature compensation provides great accuracy. Since the robust devices are so well protected against overloading and also cope very well with pressure peaks, they are highly suitable for use in hydraulic systems. Other typical applications are in compressor and pump engineering, and in cooling circuits.

These handy devices are connected to the process with G ¼, G ½, ¼ NPT or ½ NPT threads. Other connections are optionally available. There is a choice of 16 measuring ranges, reaching from -1 ... 0 bar up to 0 ... 600 bar relative pressure.

Analogue outputs of 4 ... 20 mA, 0 ... 5 V and 0 ... 10 V are available for signal transmission. Fast on the spot information about the current pressure is provided by the practical AUF-type plug-on display. With protection type IP 65, the stainless steel and resistant ceramic sensors can cope with jet-water. The protection type IP 68 models can handle complete flooding.

New ATEX Approved Explosion Proof Pressure Transmitters

NOSHOK (USA) have announced their new 619 and 620 Series heavy-duty pressure transmitters. These transmitters feature a pressure-tight encapsulated design, and are ATEX II 2 G Ex d II C approved.

Available in a wide variety of pressure ranges, they are ideal for use in volatile environments such as oil & gas, petrochemical and borehole applications.

The 619 and 620 Series transmitters feature corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction, and a welded pressure connection and measuring cell for exceptional shock and vibration resistance. Their standard output signal is 4-20 mA, 2-wire; however other options are available with voltage outputs in a 3-wire system. The 619 Series transmitter features a 1/2” NPT standard connection, while the front flush 620 Series version eliminates extra space in which the measuring medium can crystallise or form residue.

NOSHOK 619 and 620 Series transmitters also incorporate significant levels of RFI, EMI and ESD protection.

Some of the features and benefits include: Used for dynamic and static measurements, High accuracy and long term stability, Excellent overload protection, Wide variety of pressure ranges, Corrosion-resistant stainless steel design and Excellent repeatability.

Some of the applications this series can be used for are: Gas pressure measurement, Oil drilling platforms/pipelines, Refineries/Petrochemical industry and Borehole monitoring.

New Pressure Transmitter with CANopen and J1939 Protocols

With the model MHC-1, WIKA (Germany) has launched a new pressure transmitter for mobile hydraulic applications onto the market, which is available with CANopen and J1939 output signals.

In mobile hydraulics, the MHC-1 is exposed to extreme operating conditions. To ensure its long-term reliability, all requirement parameters were simulated in a specific test programme. The robust instrument has been designed to be very durable, is intended for measuring ranges from 0 ... 60 to 0 ... 1,000 bar, and offers

an accuracy to < 0.5 % of span. MHC-1 has excellent temperature characteristics and with high EMC protection is particularly immune to interferences.

For ease of installation, it can be ordered preconfigured. The version with an integrated Y-connector enables an installation that is as safe as it is easy.
