“THE TRUE SIGN OF INTELLIGENCE IS NOT KNOWLEDGE BUT IMAGINATION.” —ALBERT EINSTEIN

The annual Gulf Coast Conference 2024 in Galveston as always will provide ample knowledge with its technical presentations, varied symposia, innovative keynote speaker, and up-to-date classes. But, as Albert Einstein willfully quipped, imagination is where the true sign of intelligence exists.

GCC (Gulf Coast Conference) always promotes the imagination from knowledge sources as well as through the latest innovations from the exhibitors in the exposition hall.

When we take the time to move away from our humdrum routine, spend quality time in a stellar place, and engage in captivating conversations, our imagination becomes alive and ready to create our new future.

GCC 2024 continues to offer an abundance of avenues to tickle our creativity and enhance our workfl ow.

Our excellent keynote speaker, Professor Ryan Rodgers of Florida State University is the Deputy Director of the Ion Cyclotron Resonance Program at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab). He oversees environmental, petrochemical, and forensic applications of FT-ICR mass spectrometry, is the Director of the Future Fuels Institute, an FSU Distinguished University Scholar, and a past Associate Editor of Energy and Fuels. He also holds an International Chair position as a Professor of Chemistry in Energy and Environmental Science at the University of Pau, France and is a member of the Joint International Laboratory, iC2MC, along with TotalEnergies, University of Pau, and the University of Rouen.

Whew! What a list of accolades, and that’s the abbreviated version!

Professor Rodger’s keynote will highlight 20 years of

research in structural and compositional characterization of petroleum related components of all kinds. Your imagination will be in overdrive.

In our ever-expanding desire to expand what GCC can offer, we are collaborating with COQA (Crude Oil Quality Association) to share our meeting space and exhibition.

Bringing two conferences to one location and one time will give the attendees an amazing opportunity to expand their imagination even more. The possibilities are endless!

Last year saw the reestablishment of GCC’s award presentations where we honored Tore Fossum as our 2023 Presenter of the Year. Tore is an institution and expert in the titration fi eld for the past few decades and was well deserving of the recognition. As a matter of fact, Tore is still presenting and will continue to share his expertise with us at GCC 2024.

Join us on Wednesday at the exhibition fl oor to fi nd out who will be the 2024 Presenter of the Year. And by popular demand, we are bringing back the very favored Vendor Bingo with signifi cant gift card awards. More opportunities to elevate your imagination as we explore the exhibit hall with all its nooks and crannies of imagination rich booths.

As we were exploring the drudgery of our daily routine, the repetitiveness of our schedule and the mundaneness of our life, my thoughts trailed… “If we have always done it that way, we have probably done it wrong.” Let’s break the routine. Let’s reach further, expect bigger, focus higher! Let’s meet at the conference where knowledge and imagination converge!
