Measurement and Testing New ADI 2045TI Ex Proof Process Analyser

The completely newly developed Afriso (Germany) STM 225 dust measuring instrument operates on the basis of the scattered light principle and can be used to measure Metrohm Applikon (Netherlands) has released its third generation of Ex proof Process Analysers. A 100% Dutch development used worldwide in hazardous and explosive environments primarily in the chemical and petrochemical industries.

The ADI 2045TI Ex proof Process Analyser complies with EU Directives 94/9/EC (ATEX95) for Zone 1 and Zone 2 electrical hazardous areas. A pressurised purge system together with intrinsic safety devices protects all electronic components within the robust & corrosion proof Stainless Steel housing. Specially designed and engineered wet part modules complete the protection method to maintain the ATEX integrity.

Metrohm Applikon Process Analysers are flexible in layout and configurable to meet virtually every need of the customer. The ADI 2045TI Ex proof enables all monitoring and control right at the sample point in the hazardous area reducing cost with expensive plant infrastructure.

Typical applications are: water determination in organic solvents and fuels, salt in crude oil, peroxide, bromide, ammonia, acids and bases, hydrogen sulfides, mercaptans, and cyanide to name a few…

Metrohm Applikon Analysers are sold worldwide and supported locally by Metrohm subsidiaries and regional support centres. 27326pr@reply-direct.com

Rugged Fluid Analysis System for Comprehensive Lubricant Analysis in Field Applications

Spectro Inc. (USA) has introduced a rugged, portable expeditionary fluid analysis system that gives field operators the capacity to perform comprehensive, laboratory quality, lubricant analysis. The multipurpose Q5800 combines the ability to perform abnormal wear metals analysis, particle counting, viscosity and lubricant condition and contamination tests in a compact, field-based system. The battery-powered device facilitates maintenance of high-value equipment, enabling complete lubricant assessment for condition monitoring and rapid results that permit informed maintenance decisions. Featuring a custom backpack designed to carry the device and all accessories, the system is easy to transport and operates reliably in a wide variety of challenging field environments.

The Q5800 is comprised of three major measurement components: A filtration particle quantifier (FPQ) that provides abnormal wear metal analysis using XRF technology along with particle counting; a kinematic viscometer; and an infrared spectrometer, featuring Spectro’s patented flip-top cell, that carries out tests for TAN/TBN, water content, soot and oxidation. The system requires no solvent usage and all data is conveniently logged and tracked with a powerful operating system that is intuitive and easy to use.

Spectro president and CEO Brian Mitchell said, “We believe the Spectro Q5800 system is the most advanced, field deployable lubricant analysis platform ever offered. Its development was conceived and initially funded under a Defense Acquisition Challenge Program (DACP) initiated more than three years ago and currently embodies seven patents either granted or pending. Combining these capabilities with its rugged and portable design enables users to rapidly perform field tests with accuracy equivalent to bench-top laboratory instrumentation. Because they can immediately evaluate the status of fluids in their high-value equipment, field operators can make immediate and informed maintenance and reliability decisions that will result in lower operational costs, minimum downtime, maximum safety and the elimination of lubricant-related equipment

failures. The Q5800 further demonstrates Spectro’s commitment to building on its technology leadership position in the performance fluids analysis industry.”

Get Total Control of Your Instrument, Test Parameters and Data Collection

Brookfield Engineering (USA) have announced the release of RheocalcT Software delivering total control of both instrument and test parameters. RheocalcT gives the operator the ability to fully automated viscosity testing from a dedicated PC when using the new DV3T Touch Screen Rheometer and the new DV2T Touch Screen Viscometer.

The user interface for RheocalcT presents an enhanced range of choices for test method creation and data gathering/analysis. Loop functions allow performance of repetitive tasks on test samples that require viscosity measurement at multiple rotational speeds, different temperature set

points, and discreet time intervals. Viscosity data averaging is now possible for individual tasks within a test step or over multiple steps in the total test program. These improvements satisfy customer requests for greater flexibility in execution of test method and management of viscosity data.

RheocalcT collects data from the instrument and allows it to be saved, viewed, printed, plotted and analysed. QC limits for acceptable viscosity values can be displayed directly on the data graph so that pass/fail decisions can be made on visual inspection. Advanced data analysis to assess yield stress and pseudo plastic index can be performed with a choice of math models: Bingham, Casson, NCA/CMA Casson, Power Law, IPC Paste, and Herschel-Bulkley.

Data management options include export of data files to Excel or to read-only PDF formats. File extension for data managed within RheocalcT software is .vdt. Data files can be shared with other users who run RheocalcT on their PC so that analyses can be reviewed in group discussions.

RheocalcT can be used with any PC that runs Windows 8, 7, Vista or XP. Processor speed should be 2 GHz or higher. Minimum RAM requirement is 1GB. Two USB ports are recommended to support viscosity testing with concurrent temperature control using a Brookfield accessory, such as TC Circulating Temperature Bath or Thermosel System.
