Simplifying your Supply Chain
In our industry there are often long supply chains with each entity adding value until the end product reaches the final customer, in indEx Enclosure's (UK) case standard or custom ATEX Enclosures, Cabinets and Control Stations. Some entities are in place to compensate for poor upstream supply chain performance thus not directly adding value to the final customer at a heavy cost.
For example a manufacturer may have long lead-times for standard and even longer lead times for custom Enclosures, Cabinets or Control Stations. In order to protect the final customer a distributor is often put in place to buffer the long lead-times and poor service through holding stock or using their buying power to expedite orders. This is further compounded by another entity buying from the distributor to carry out further customisation. In this example there are two entities that are protecting the end customer from the manufacturer, but at a high cost.
The cost is not just financial, communication is more complex and susceptible to expensive errors. Also the end customer is so far removed
from the manufacturer the opportunity to collaborate in further beneficial customisation or to discuss ‘Design for Manufacture’ opportunities are diminished.
indEx have been focusing on this supply chain problem removing the need for a distributor and customisation third party entities. This has been achieved by reducing industry lead-times and placing indEx experts on the frontline to discuss requirements. In addition to this the procurement overhead of running a supplier account with indEx has been reduced by delivering exceptional quality every time and being extremely easy to work within every area of the business from initial enquiry to accounting. This has even enabled indEx to open new accounts with customers that are in the process of rationalising their suppliers.
indEx’s supply chain simplification has caught the interest of Procurement Directors from around the world. In some cases three to four entities have been removed from the supply chain with huge cost savings realised and less management overheads. Last month indEx received urgent orders from: New Mexico, California, Russia and India all with the same problem, delayed shipment of an expensive assembly due to a missing custom ATEX Enclosures, Cabinet or Control Station. In some cases complex requirements where converted into a shipped product within days, only made possible by this type of supply chain simplification.

Following on from the success of the recently launched AGC 23 Series Total Hydrocarbons Gas Analyser, AGC Instruments (Ireland) have announced the latest addition to their product offering with a newly designed Wall Mounted version to complement the 19” Rack and Bench Mount versions.
The AGC 23 Series Total Hydrocarbons Gas Analyser represents the latest in digital and modern technology based on the Flame Ionisation Detector (FID) platform. Having evolved from its well-known predecessor and now with improved analytical performance there are four versions available in 19” Rack, Bench Mount or Wall Mount forms: 1. 2300 - % Analyser; 2. 2400 – ppm Analyser; 3. 2500 – ppm
Analyser with methaniser for CO/CO2 (Single Reading); 4. 2600 - Heated Sample Line.
Designed to continuously measure and monitor ppm/ppb concentrations of Hydrocarbons in a gas stream, a heated version is also available for those samples where temperature must remain elevated. This easy to use THC Analyser has an interactive touch screen display where all controls and results are easily brought to the operator’s attention. A wide range of detection down to < 30ppb is achievable with an Auto- ranging function. Other features include standard 4-20mA outputs with alarm contacts, data logging over RS 232, plus the results can be read directly on the display or transmitted to the Control Room or the DCS. Also new to this model is the validation of all results.
With a wide target audience including Air Separation Units, to Industrial Gas Production Sites to the Petrochemical and Refinery markets, AGC are expanding their presence in the market with a range of installations globally.

pH Measurement and Control of Ethylene Quench Waters
Ethylene is produced at high temperatures (750-1000°C) in a steam cracker. Olefins, Naphtha or LNG feedstock is steam cracked in a cracking furnace. The ethylene is produced when the high temperature process is stopped by water quenching. Accurate pH measurement and control, by the addition of caustic, to remove acid gases such as hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide of these quench waters is necessary to prevent unwanted emulsions forming.
Porous reference electrodes fail due to serious fouling and hydrogen sulphide poisoning present in the quench waters.
Accurate, Low-Maintenance, Long Life pH measurement and control is assured when the quench water process is controlled using the unique and patented Refex pH/mV electrodes. The Refex patented reference electrode uses a Non-Porous, ionically conducing, hard polymeric material replacing the need for porous liquid-junctions (Diaphragma). The Refex polymeric material doubles as an immobilised non-porous electrolyte and also as a protective interface/barrier that separates the quench waters from the reference Ag/AgCl half-cell and KCl electrolyte. As a result there is no liquid exchange or contact.
The Refex electrodes cannot be poisoned or fouled and continue to perform accurately even when completely coated with crude oil for examples. The coatings must remain wet and conductive.
The Refex electrodes are compatible with most pH transmitters. The electrodes shown in the image are compatible with Yokogawa pH transmitters (retrofit directly to the Yokogawa flow cell) and connect directly with the Yokogawa connecting cables.
