12 Anton Paar Blue Becomes Red for Petrotest Customers

Petrotest, the German-based company which is well-known for its Rapid Small Scale Oxidation Tester (RSSOT) PetroOxy, has been acquired by the Austrian instrument manufacturer Anton Paar. Starting in July 2013, the blue of Petrotest’s logo and corporate design has been gradually making way for Anton Paar’s red and silver.

What does this mean for Petrotest customers exactly?

Petrotest customers will now benefit from Anton Paar's high-quality service and support. With Anton Paar’s dense network of sales partners and 17 sales subsidiaries around the world, customers are close to an experienced local team which speaks their language and provides service, application support and training without delay. All Anton Paar service engineers are trained and authorised by Anton Paar and use only certified test equipment to check and adjust the instruments so that the highest level of accuracy is guaranteed. As part of after-sales service, Anton Paar’s sales network provides on-site product training, customer-specific seminars and the provision of certified reference materials and maintenance contracts. For the lifetime of the instrument, experts are available to help with application support and method development.

Heinz Kindlhofer, General Manager of the new subsidiary, explains: “Anton Paar's strength lies in its innovative approach and reliable service. 20 % of annual turnover is invested in R&D and whole teams are dedicated to product development, to “inventing” in the truest sense, in fact. Once in the field, Anton Paar’s instruments are well-known for their unbelievable robustness. They run for years and when service or application support is needed, an expert is close by, ready to come to the customer’s site.”

FREE calibration and maintenance

To welcome former Petrotest customers to the Anton Paar Group, Anton Paar is offering a free one-off calibration and maintenance for former Petrotest instruments currently in the product range and earlier product versions of these instruments. This covers:

• Safety inspection • Full functional check • Firmware and software update, if available and requested • Full documentation of instrument data before and after service • Either on-site or depot-based service for minimal downtime

This offer is for a one-off calibration and maintenance and is valid until March 31, 2014. To obtain your free one-off calibration and maintenance, see www.anton-paar.com or send an email to welcome.provetec@anton-paar.com

Two specialised companies

Producing high-quality instruments requires technical expertise, something which Anton Paar and the former Petrotest company have in common. Many of the components of Anton Paar’s testing instruments can only be manufactured by a well-trained precision engineer with much know-how and skill. The production spectrum includes cooling coils which cannot be bent by any machine, platinum coils which cannot be produced by a machine in the right quality and precision, and cones whose transition from one material to another within the required tolerances can only be produced by skilled engineers with years of experience.

For 90 years the name Anton Paar has been synonymous with outstanding machining skills and technical know-how. This expertise, coupled with enthusiasm and scientific curiosity, has molded Anton Paar into a technological innovator with instruments at the forefront of technology. Developing rapidly from its roots as a one-man locksmith’s workshop, today Anton Paar is the world leader in the field of density and concentration

measurement, the determination of dissolved CO2, rheology and the material characterisation of surfaces. Its customers include the largest soft drink and beer manufacturers in the world, as well as companies in the petrochemical, food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Its products for petrochemical applications include density meters, viscometers, refractometers, online sensors for determining density and API gravity, asphalt rheometers and instruments for wet-chemical acid digestion and microwave-assisted sample preparation.

140 years in the business

The former Petrotest was another company with a long tradition of invention and precision engineering. Established in 1873 by Berthold Pensky, the inventor of the Pensky-Martens method, Petrotest has been serving the petrochemical industry for 140 years. The portfolio includes high-quality laboratory instruments which are used in the quality control of mineral oil products such as crude oil, liquid gas, vehicle fuels, airplane fuels, lubricants, greases and bitumen. For the determination of oxidation stability in fuels, the only automatic instrument which fulfills the European EN 16091 and US- American ASTM D7525 and ASTM D7545 standards is the Rapid Small Scale Oxidation Tester (RSSOT), a Petrotest product called PetroOxy which is now produced and sold by Anton Paar.

Anton Paar's acquisition of Petrotest brings together two companies with highly specialised, high-end products. Customers in the oil and gas industries will now find a wider range of Anton Paar products available for their laboratory and process environments.
