Flow Level Pressure New Online Process Instrumentation Training Launched Endress+Hauser (USA) have developed an affordable online training platform, End User Academy (EUA), that can be delivered to process automation professionals anytime, anywhere.
Endress+Hauser have announced the launch of their new End User Academy (EUA), which allows field technicians to gain the valuable training they need to run plant operations safely, smoothly and more efficiently—all without spending too much time away from their regular job duties.
Through its online training modules that cover theory and concepts as prerequisites, the End User Academy (EUA) gives field technicians the preparation needed to successfully begin on-site and classroom training. The online training module is easy-to-follow with narrated presentations complete with diagrams, photos and videos; and it offers instruction in the following areas: Flow - Electromagnetic, Vortex, Coriolis Mass Flow, Ultrasonic, D/P Flow, Thermal Mass Flow; Level - Capacitance, Vibration, Ultrasonic, Hydrostatic, Radar, Guided Radar, D/P Level; Pressure - Gauge/Absolute, Differential Pressure, Hydrostatic; Temperature - Temperature Transmitter, RTDs and Thermocouples, Sensors; Liquid Analysis - Conductivity, pH/ORP, Chlorine, Dissolved Oxygen, Turbidity, Chemical Analysers; Recorders & Components - Paperless Recorders, Visual Data Managers, Displays, Power Supplies; Solutions - Wireless Networks, Life Cycle Management, Plant Asset Management.
According to Jerry Spindler, Endress+Hauser customer training manager, “The importance of investing in skilled workers is often overlooked by employers, so companies need to realise the value that online training can provide. This value can be measured in a number of ways including increased employee satisfaction and retention, higher productivity, reduced new-hire orientation time, and fewer process upsets and incidents.”
Technicians that have an interest in enrolling in the End User Academy (EUA) have the opportunity to test drive a course for free. The goal of this “test drive” is to provide end users with firsthand experience with the interactive training material available on the Endress+Hauser End User Academy (EUA) to determine if this training product is right for the technician and/or organisation.

Flow Conditioners Support Flow Meter Accuracy & Process Efficiency
Plant, process and instrumentation engineers who want to learn more about flow conditioning devices to improve the performance, accuracy, and repeatability of flow meters and other flow profile critical process equipment will be interested in a new brochure from the Vortab Company (USA), available for download online.
A pipe straight-run is required in flow meter and pump installations to overcome the swirl, asymmetrical flow profiles and otherwise un-repeatable flow that are created by elbows, pipe expanders or reducers, valves, dampeners and other disrupters in the process pipe. In process piping systems, finding or adding a suitable amount of straight-run to accommodate the flow meters, pumps and other critical components is often impractical or un-feasible, either technically, economically or both. Flow conditioners, sometimes referred to as flow straighteners, are a practical and cost effective engineering solution to overcome this lack of available straight-run.
The Vortab Company manufactures flow conditioners that utilise proven principles of operation combining proven swirl removal technology with the patented Vortab flow conditioning process to achieve the most repeatable and efficient flow profile available. The various inline and insertion style Vortab Flow Conditioner products consist of a short section of swirl reduction tabs combined with
multiple arrays of profile conditioning tabs. This design produces rapid cross-stream mixing, minimises swirl and velocity profile distortions and produces a highly repeatable flow profile that is measurable across a broad flow range.
Flow disturbances caused by irregular pipe runs, valves and other conditions often adversely affect the accuracy and repeatability of flow measurement and control instrumentation. Vortab flow conditioner products are specified for use with and successfully applied with a variety of flow meter technologies including: differential pressure, turbine, vortex shedding, ultrasonic, thermal and magnetic flow meter technologies. In today’s demanding plant environment, the Vortab Flow Conditioners ensure flow instrumentation accuracy and repeatable performance for improved process control.
Vortab Flow Conditioners feature a very low-pressure loss design. Non-recoverable pressure loss can reduce maximum flow capability in process lines, creating process inefficiencies and requiring greater energy expenditures to move process liquids and gases. Perforated plates, tube bundles, screens and other flow conditioning technologies produce a much greater pressure loss than the Vortab Flow Conditioners.
The Vortab technology provides unmatched performance with little pressure loss and swirl-free, repeatable, conditioned flow profiles. This tab-type technology is ideal for use with critical process equipment including flow meter installations, pumps, compressors, control valves and others. The open tab design is non-fouling and will not trap dirt, or be clogged by debris in the flow stream. Traditional Vortab models are for use in air, gas, and liquid applications. Vortab products are installed today in applications around the globe supporting a variety of flow instrument technologies in partnership with major flow instrument manufacturers.
Vortab Flow Conditioners are available with carbon steel, 316 stainless steel or Hastelloy C-276 construction and with several process connections—ANSI flanges, male NPT threads, butt welded preps or retaining wafers. Delivery time is available in less than six weeks, depending on size. Custom configurations are also available.

Designed for operation with oval gear meters - the Titan Enterprises (UK) Metra-Smart is a small, intrinsically safe flow computer that provides all the electronic features you would expect from a high precision measurement device.
The Metra-Smart was specifically designed for computing and displaying flow rates and totals as well as giving an analogue output proportional to flow. It can also give two pre-set flow switch points and calculate differential rates from two input sensors. The Metra-Smart will display Re-settable Total, Accumulated Total and Flow Rate in engineering units as programmed by the user. Simple PIN protected flow chart programming with prompts guide you through the entire programming routine enabling effective use by even occassional operators.
Robustly designed in glass reinforced nylon with stainless steel screws and Viton o-ring seals to suit harsh industrial and marine environments, the Metra-Smart is UV resistant and weatherproof to P67 (Nema 4X) standards.

Innovative Custody- Transfer Accuracy for the Oil & Gas Industry
Siemens (USA) is known for combining deep industry knowledge with innovative thinking to meet the unique challenges faced by every industry. A prime example is the SITRANS FUT1010 ultrasonic flowmeter for the oil & gas industry, winner of a 2012 Innovation Award from Flow Control magazine.
The SITRANS FUT1010 offers custody-transfer accuracy for hydrocarbon applications – but what truly distinguishes it from the competition is the TransLoc mounting system. With TransLoc, the transducers are permanently mounted on the outside of the sensor, preventing contact with the medium and eliminating cavities that can lead to fouling. As a result, the meter is virtually maintenance-free.
The versatile SITRANS FUT1010 is available in both a liquid and gas version. Since the TransLoc system allows for laboratory calibration, the performance of the liquid version complies with OIML R117 and API recommendations. The meter also serves as a perfect replacement for intrusive densitometers. It is ideal for custody-transfer pipeline, terminal, refinery and transportation applications.
The gas version is compliant with AGA-9 and features an internal fixed AGA-8 table that allows for reporting of standard volume flow without a separate volume- compensating flow computer. It is well-suited for production wells, underground storage, gas processing, power plants and other applications with valve-generated acoustic noise.
The SITRANS FUT1010 meets stringent qualifications for use in numerous countries throughout the world. A variety of approvals is available, including INMETRO, CSA, FM, ATEX and CRN.
