ABB’s UK Service Manager Appointed for Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Business

Major Technology Partnership Announced with Precisive and Servomex

Servomex Group Limited (USA), specialists in gas analysis, have announced a technology partnership with Precisive LLC, an innovator in optics-based analysers located in Boston, MA.

Servomex will incorporate elements of Precisive's gas sensing technology into their gas analysis solutions for the Hydrocarbon Processing market, namely the integration of Precisive’s patented Tunable Filter Spectrometer (TFS) technology into Servomex’s photometric analyser range.

As a direct consequence of this agreement,

exciting new Servomex products will be announced imminently - enabling Servomex to offer the Hydrocarbon Processing market a genuinely complete gas analysis solution for many downstream processing applications.

“Servomex is delighted to announce this technology partnership with Precisive,” says Chuck Hurley, Director of Sales and Marketing, Servomex.

“Precisive and Servomex share an intelligent and innovative approach to developing sensing technologies, so their optical analysers offer the same industry-leading combination of measurement and performance benefits our customers expect.”

“An acknowledged innovator in gas analysis technologies for more than 50 years, Servomex is a partner with the depth, quality, service and support that the most demanding and global customers expect. We’re excited to partner with Servomex and together our customers will realise tremendous benefits by combining our innovative technologies and extensive expertise,” says Duane Sword, Chief Executive Officer, Precisive.

Jurong Aromatics Corporation (JAC), a major aromatics and oil products manufacturer in Singapore, recently chose PAC (USA) as its provider for lab instruments in its new complex on Jurong Island. PAC will supply several laboratory analytical instruments for Petroleum Testing application (Gas Chromatography, Elemental and Physical Properties) to JAC site, which is expected to process 4.5 million tons per year of condensate feedstock to produce 1.44 million tons per year of aromatics. The new complex is expected to open in 2014.

Power and automation technologies leader, ABB (UK), has appointed Troy Stewart as head of service for its oil, gas and petrochemical business in the UK and Caspian regions.

The role sees Troy leading ABB’s service operations in the UK and Caspian, with a combined team of over 100 personnel. “It is a rapidly expanding and growing market that requires increasing service levels to meet customer demands now and future,” says Troy. “While we are seeing continuing demand for traditional healthcare services, operators are looking to companies such as ABB to provide advanced services such as alarm management, advanced control and remote operations.”

The growth in the market is primarily from ABB’s installed base as its customers strive to maximise production by updating or modifying their automation systems while ensuring optimum safety requirements are met. “We are also experiencing an increasing demand for electrical and telecoms and have a range of services that are attractive to the market.”

Troy has worked for over 25 years in various companies including ABB, Aspentech and Rockwell, providing solutions and services to the oil and gas industry. His experience extends from upstream offshore and onshore well heads, through pipelines, refining and downstream processing plants. Troy has a B.Sc. in Physics, Masters in Control Engineering and an MBA.

ABB is a specialist in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people.

ArabLab Grows from Strength to Strength

Arablab is the laboratory and instrumentation industry's international show in the Middle East and Asia, covering many of the important growth markets of the Middle East, China, the Indian sub-continent, south-east Asia and Africa.

With more exhibitors – over 800 companies from around the globe – focusing on laboratory technology, biotechnology, nanotechnology, environmental sciences, robotics and

automation, analytical instrumentation, and measurement and testing – Arablab is regarded by the industry as an important annual event, giving access to the world’s most vibrant petrochemical sector and providing an introduction to the world’s biggest biotechnology market.

Arablab 2013 welcomed some 10,000 buyers, specifiers, end-users and distributors representing just about every discipline - grain technicians and forensic criminologists, university professors and industrial chemists, molecular geneticists and metallurgists, medical researchers and marine scientists from more than 80 countries – who came to see and purchase the latest technology and equipment in the fields of medical, petroleum and environmental research and analysis, forensics, laboratory automation, and data process management.

Arablab 2014 will be held in conjunction with meetings and conferences of several regional and international organisations, including: The Gulf Laboratory Association Meeting; The Heads of the UAE’s Police Forensics Departments Meeting; SEFA’s International Congress; The Laboratories Proficiency Conference.

Reflecting the growing demand by the industry, Arablab 2014 will provide 20% more stand space.

An increasingly important adjunct to the exhibition itself is Arablab’s comprehensive programme of seminars – there were more than 100 sessions in 2013 - which will be further expanded in 2014. Focussing on a range of key areas - including MediLab, BioLab, PetroLab and EnviroLab - and offering unrivalled opportunities to obtain information about the industry’s most recent developments, the series of branded seminars presents an invaluable networking platform for manufacturers, buyers and users.

PAC will be providing a wide array of instruments, including the Antek MultiTek, the only instrument on the market that combines testing for sulphur, nitrogen, and halides all in one, and the Herzog OptiDist, which provides accurate distillation analysis with an easy to use, highly automated system. The most significant part of the order came from the AC Analytical Controls (AC) analysers, which feature the most advanced gas chromatography (GC) instruments. JAC will receive the following AC instruments: Reformulyzer, SIMDIS, Hi-Speed RGA and numerous custom-built GC solutions.

“We are excited to be working with JAC as they open this new major aromatics complex,” says Tim Winfrey, PAC President. “We are confident that the numerous products we are providing will aid JAC in their production and profitability.”
