News 3 New helpline

A HELPLINE has been set up for any customers with concerns after the tragic fire in a London tower block in June.

We have been working hard to reassure people of our robust safety approach in all our multi-storey blocks. But if you still have concerns, call us on 0800 597 8888.

Please be assured:

SAFE AND SECURE: Betty Cuthbertson with Fire officer Stephen Harkins

• The materials and systems used in our multi-storey investment programme meet, and in many cases exceed, Scottish building standards and regulations for this type of property. The systems used are designed to stop fire spreading and are made with non-combustible materials.

• We carry out daily patrols in our multi-storey blocks with our local staff identifying and acting on any safety issue. This includes any fire risk.

ng clear and tidy

uplift by calling your local authority. YourPlace boss Karen Durnian said: “Keeping closes, landings and foyers clear is vital for keeping everyone free of fire risk. “They can easily be set alight – and can block people’s exit if the worst happens and there is a fire. “It helps keep our communities clean and – most importantly of all – safe.” Remember, if you have decent quality

furniture you want rid of, why not donate it to our Home Comforts service, which upcycles unwanted furniture to pass on to those who can’t afford to buy furniture. Call or email us to find out more.

Follow these tips to make sure you stay safe at home

• Get a free home safety visit – call 0800 0731 999 • Make sure you have a smoke alarm and it works. • Don’t leave rubbish or bulk items lying about communal areas – it’s dangerous • Always put cigarettes out properly in an ashtray • Switch off electrical appliances at the wall when you leave your home or go to bed.

• These daily checks are supplemented by annual inspections by our technical staff, maintenance of all fire-fighting equipment and quarterly inspections by the fire service.

• We have a very close working relationship with Scottish Fire and Rescue with one of their officers seconded to work with our staff to minimise any risk of fire in or around our communities.

• We are listening very carefully for any additional safety recommendations or advice from the authorities as a result of the London fire and will take any necessary actions.
