AQHA Director’s Report

By Kathy M. Patterson AQHA Director

Save on Horse Registration Part of the American

Quarter Horse Association’s mission is to record and pre- serve the pedigree of the American Quarter Horse. Each horse registered with the Association is integral to stay- ing true to the core mission of recording and preserving the breed. For a limited time, AQHA is offering an aged- horse registration special. Be- ginning August 1, AQHA members can register Ameri- can Quarter Horses 24 months after the foaling date or older for the price of a yearling – only $170. This is a savings of up to $380 based on the age of the horse! The special savings is only available until Decem- ber 31, 2021, and all AQHA registration rules apply to new registrations. To be eligible for registration, all registra- tion requirements must be met. There has never been a better opportunity to register

aged horses with AQHA to be a part of AQHA programs, events and com- petitions! AQHA has always encour- aged early foal registration by keeping weanling registration fees lower for members; however, this special gives unregistered aged horses the opportunity to join the more than 6 million American Quarter Horses registered worldwide. Prices for horses 23 months after the foaling date and younger will remain the same. To begin the registration process, view the AQHA Registration Guide and download the registration application. AQHA Member Experi- ence Professionals are available via phone and email to assist with any questions regarding the AQHA regis- tration process. As long as the regis- tration application is sent in before December 31, 2021, the reduced reg- istration fee will be applied to the ap- plication, regardless of the amount of time it may take to complete the reg- istration process. To register a horse as an American Quarter Horse, you must be an AQHA member. If you are not a current member, join AQHA or renew your membership today! For questions on the AQHA registration process, submit a Contact Us Form or call 806-376-4811 and select, Option 1, Extension 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central, Monday through Friday. The entire $170 registration fee is non-re- fundable – even if the registration cannot be processed.

AQHA Executive Vice President Search Following the April resignation

of Craig Huffhines as executive vice president of the Association, AQHA formed an Executive Vice President Search Committee tasked with find- ing the unique and capable individual who will lead AQHA in the future. Executive search firms are currently filing proposals with the committee. It is the committee’s goal to determine the most effective path forward and all options available to bring highly qualified candidates to the table. “At this point, we are 60 days into the work of an outstanding Executive Vice President Search Committee,

one that is looking at our current and future needs at the Association,” said AQHA President Norman K. Luba. “The AQHA Executive Committee sincerely appreciates the due dili- gence of the search committee, and we look forward to its recommenda- tions. In the meantime, Interim Exec- utive Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel Chad Pierce, who has served AQHA for 18 years, is doing a re- markable job and the business of AQHA continues to move forward with no interruption. Staff must also be commended on working together to further the mission of AQHA while we carefully consider our leadership for the future.” AQHA First Vice President Dr.

Scott Myers is serving as chair of the Executive Vice President Search Committee and is guiding its highly talented and capable members as they set about finding the unique candidate to fill the position. Potential candi- dates are encouraged to submit re- sumes

to Dr. Myers smyers@oqha.com and at c/o

rbrooks@aqha.org. Nominations for potential candidates are also being ac- cepted at this time. The application deadline is September 1. As addi- tional details regarding the executive vice president search are available, the Association will publish more information on AQHA.com.

Select World will also host the Ade- quan® Level 2 and Nutrena Level 1 championships. The AQHA Execu- tive Committee previously made the decision to waive qualifying for all classes, with the exception of an alter- native qualifying requirement for open-division roping classes, due to the impact of the pandemic on quali- fying events; traditional qualifying will resume for the 2022 AQHA championship shows. “The Farnam AQHA World and Adequan® Select World is the most prestigious event in the equine industry, where we see ex- hibitors and horses vie for world championship honors and the coveted golden globe across a multitude of disciplines,” said Justin Billings, AQHA chief show officer. “We are proud to offer this show as a celebra- tion of the American Quarter Horse and those who love it. The AQHA Show Council, Cattle Advisory Com- mittee and AQHA Executive Com- mittee have worked diligently to help us create a schedule that meets a va- riety of needs for a multitude of classes. This year’s event adds four days of competition to better accom- modate a large number of entries. Entry information will be available soon, and exhibitors will have the convenience of entering online once

again this year.” Returning to the Far- nam AQHA World and Adequan® Select World is the 42nd Annual Tri- angle Fall Horse Sale. Specializing in western performance American Quar- ter Horses, the Triangle Horse Sale has a reputation as one of the most versatile consignment horse sales in the country. The sale is anticipated to attract high-quality horses and create an amazing marketplace during the first Friday and Saturday of the show.
