ORCHA News July 18, finally the first
cow horse event in almost 2 years here in Ontario. With a full slate of classes, there were a total of 50 entries judged by Scott Carmichael of Welland. This was Scott’s first time judging a cow horse event. Riders were enthu-
siastic, horses were ready to work and the cattle were great! As per usual, we had several new people joining in with some very nice horses. The calibre of horses in the last year has definitely stepped ahead. The show ran without a hitch and at the end of

You can also follow us on our social media plat- forms for all the fun — and for friendly reminders on shows, entry dates and other late-breaking information. All races will be held
under the OXC COVID Safety Plan guidelines; please review the Safety Plan on our website before attending any races. Entries open on-line only 14 days prior to race day this year and close at 6pm on the Wednesday before a Satur- day race and at 6pm on the Thursday before a Sunday race. Each race has a capped number of runs/entries and must be pre-registered – so get those entries in early! And remember this

year, due to the fewer num- ber of races, a rider/horse team is required to ride in only one Ontario sanctioned race to be eligible to apply for entry to the Provincial Championship races in Oc- tober.
Other 2021 OXC races
currently scheduled are: Aug 29 - @ Restoration Ranch, Cambridge, ON Sept 5
- @ The Sliding
Stop Tack Shop, Waterloo, ON Sept 12 - @ K&R Ranch, New Liskeard, ON Sept 18 - @ Stonehaven, Collingwood, ON OXC races are usually
held at county fairs but since so many fairs have been cancelled or modified this year, we’re also co-sanc- tioning some races for our members and friends to par- ticipate in. Also listed on the OXC Events tab, they are:
Aug. 22 - co-sanctioned with the Politmore Fair, Val des Monts, QC Sept. 4 - co-sanctioned with RLH Equestrian, Dalkeith, ON
A big thanks to all our
race location facility owners and OXC supporters for hosting our races this year. The Events tab on our web- site even has the tentative 2022 schedule posted in- cluding many of our regular Fair appearances. The OXC is also
pleased to announce both a Futurity and Maturity divi- sion at the Provincial Cham- pionships this fall sponsored by our long-time supporter, Kodiak Steel Buildings. The Futurity division is for 3 & 4 year-old horses and, given we had no races last year, the Maturity division is for 5 & 6 year-olds who may have lost the chance to com- pete in Futurity in 2020, and who have not previously won the Futurity. Our photos this month
are the work of Donna Gee who was our ring photogra- pher at the back-to-back race days at Montesola Farms on July 31 and Au- gust 1. Thanks for the awe- some pics Donna! Here’s to a safe and fun
racing summer – we hope to see you in the arena! - Tracy Galvin
