ELECT Members can now enjoy an expanded range of health and safety advice, podcasts and practical tools thanks to our ongoing partnership with the


Building Safety Group (BSG). BSG has recently updated its online


Hub, launching an extensive variety of health and safety toolbox talks and enhancing its comprehensive range of risk assessments.


It has also published a range of guidance to help Members prepare for potential COVID-19 inspections and spot checks by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Members who are registered with


the BSG Hub can now access this new wealth of content absolutely FREE to help them stay compliant and safe in all areas of their business. Dave Forrester, Director of


Technical Services at SELECT, said: “These new additions to the BSG Hub cover all aspects of health and safety and will provide even more fantastic help for our Members. “If you haven’t done so already, I would recommend signing up to the Hub to take advantage of its many easy-to-use and fl exible benefi ts.”


Toolbox talk podcasts A series of BSG toolbox talk podcasts has been uploaded to the Hub, with short information resources available to view on YouTube. There are a wide range of topics to choose from, including: ●Health and welfare – including fi rst aid, PPE, hazardous substances, dust and fumes, noise and vibration, manual handling, health and safety law, design and management regulations ●General safety – including site organisation, fi re prevention and control, temporary works, work equipment and hand-held tools, site transport safety and lifting operations and equipment ●High-risk activities – including working at height, excavations, underground and overhead services, confi ned spaces and specialist activities

Get advice on a huge range of health and safety issues with a new series of podcasts on BSG Hub


●Environment – including environmental management and waste management. Members can access them by logging into the Hub and selecting ‘BSG InTel’ > ‘BSG Information Videos & Podcasts’ > ‘BSG Tool Box Talks’.


Enhanced risk assessments A number of enhancements have also been made to the Hub’s functionality and user experience, including: ●Task-based risk assessments – users now have the option to build task-based risk assessments so multiple hazards can be included and assessed for one job. This will save Members a considerable amount of time when risk assessing larger projects.


●COSHH assessments – new ‘Location of use’ options are now available for ‘Outside’, ‘Inside – well ventilated’, ‘Inside – poorly ventilated’ and ‘Confi ned space’. A ‘Method of use’ box is also available so users can provide a description of how the substance is applied. ●Method Statements – a new ‘Plant or Equipment’ fi eld has been added to the module.


Spot checks and inspections guidance The fi nal new feature has seen BSG update its guidance to help Members ensure they are COVID secure ahead of potential spot checks and inspections. The HSE is currently visiting all types
