GCNKAA ATTENDS NAA GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS ROUNDTABLE MEETING (GART)

By Rebecca McLean, Incoming GCNKAA Executive Vice President NAA’s Government Affairs Roundtable and Legal Symposium

(GART), connects and educates government affairs professionals and volunteers while discussing pressing rental housing industry issues happening all over the country. Associations from around the U.S. have an opportunity to discuss the trends, threats, and challenges facing the rental housing industry. The GCNKAA team, as industry professionals, attend to stay informed and to help you - our members - be prepared to contend with the ever-evolving world of rental housing law and regulation.

For two and a half days stories were shared of government

policies and interventions that have harmed - often unintentionally - our members and our mission to provide quality housing in our communities. Positive solutions were also shared and brainstorm- ing creative ideas to support the industry and protect members made up much of the programming. Topics that ranged from new challenges in appropriately and effectively screening potential residents to the harm that can come from social media gone awry were popular and relevant, along with the hot topics around any- thing COVID related and the eviction moratoriums at the federal, state and even local levels. We were proud to have our own local attorney, association parliamentarian, and expert instructor Jeff Greenberger as a pre- senter on the City of Cincinnati issue of Renter’s Choice, the ill thought out idea of alternatives to security deposits that in practice actually harm the resident. He was the most popular presenter of the week with his brutal honesty and wit. As Association staff we continuously look for ways to keep

you better informed and protected. NAA’s commitment to help us help you was well represented in this year’s event.
