In Lieu of a Formal Retirement Announcement… By Joseph E. Fritz, Executive Director, ICI Unless you have attended an event
in Japan, you may not have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hiroshi Yokota, but if you have been to Kyoto for the 13th World Conference on Investment Casting or attended an International Seminar on Investment Casting, you surely will never forget him. Always greeting others with a hearty handshake and a hint of laughter in his voice, Yokota is one of those rare people whose actions make it apparent that he sincerely enjoys being with you. Many of us have had the pleasure to meet him, and I have had the good fortune to collaborate with him in his role at the Japan Founders’ Society.
In fact, over
the course of time, we have become friends.
So you can imagine my
disappointment when I learned that Yokota was retiring. Though I am happy for him to be moving onto the next phase of his life, I had been looking forward to returning the kindness that he has shown me when visiting Japan. With the 15th WCIC being postponed until 2022, I was not going to have the opportunity. I cannot speak to his involvement with the other trade associations with which he dealt, but what I can say is that whenever his name came up in conversation, people would always chuckle and have great things to say. He was obviously well liked and appreciated.
Before the pandemic hit, Yokota had the opportunity to come to America and visit the Investment Casting Institute. Everyone was thrilled to see him, and as
would be expected, he represented JFS in a very professional manner. Though we had discussed it, we did not have the opportunity to take in a baseball game, but there is plenty of time for that in retirement.
So with that in mind, I say to my
friend “Yokota-sama, I wish you a healthy and long retirement filled with friendship, laughter, cheer and baseball.”
