Inspection


In process and post process inspection instructions are easily stored for each part in your ERP system. The inspection instruments you use must be calibrated on a regular basis.


This can also be


tracked and managed in an ERP system. Viewing what gauges need to be calibrated in the coming months, listing gauges out for calibration and when they will return are all processes your ERP system should provide for you.


Labeling


Labeling parts for shipment should be easy, right? But how many times have you been dinged by a customer for incorrect labeling? For large OEM’s, an incorrect label can lead to unusable parts that need to be returned and relabeled before they can be used. Different customers have different requirements, and the configuration of each product label should be stored


in your ERP


system so there are no questions which label is correct for the part you are shipping.


Additionally, customers may


need to change requirements quickly and having flexible user-based layout reconfiguration is highly desirable, especially when you are integrated with your customer via EDI network connectivity.


Corrective Action Reports (CARs) Do you respond to customer CARs in a timely manner?


Your ERP system


should help you track CARs within your company so you can ensure they are being addressed. A simple workflow letting you know who has completed their section allows you to keep the CAR moving and maintain promised completion dates. Additionally, you may need to track and generate your supplier issues, and Odyssey allows you to process CARs and performance criteria for your suppliers, as your customers do with you.


Scrap Reduction


And then there is scrap reduction. Customers will tell you, if you have a part with high internal scrap rates, your risk of shipping a bad part to a customer is also high. Not to mention the cost of scrap.

you to generate pareto charts of your process and show you where the scrap is occurring. You can then focus on that area to determine the cause and fix the problem. Automatic alerts should also be generated to make sure that a response is timely to prevent profit loss as well as bad product going to your customers.


Cost of Quality/Cost of Poor Quality When your ERP system has integrated financials, generating a monthly report of COQ and COPQ is easy. ISO 9001, IATF16949 and AS 9100 all require the measurement of COQ and COPQ. Your ERP system should be able to generate these


reports automatically for you.


You can then focus efforts on the areas generating high costs due to poor quality and correct the issues.


Integrating your QMS Increasingly, Investment Casting facilities have more and more quality certifying tasks added to their business process. It only makes sense to try and automate those processes as much as possible to prevent adding staff and cost. Quality Management Systems arrived to fill this need. However, they can be expensive and may even require adding an administrative person to manage them. Hence, integrating your ERP with your QMS or using your ERP as your QMS is a great idea.
