Simpson Spence Young Appoints New Head of S&P

M&CCE Rebranded as Marine Civils

New Port of Blyth Head of Commercial Looks to Bright Future

The Marine & Coastal Civil Engineering Expo (M&CCE Expo) has rebranded to Marine Civils at Seawork.

Simpson Spence Young (SSY) has announced the appointment of their new Head of S&P, Toby English. Toby is set to join the company later this year, and will lead the group's worldwide S&P teams which are based in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. With experience spanning over 20 years in S&P, including stints at Clarksons and RS Platou, Toby was also one of the founding partners of Affinity, where he has been leading the S&P desk since its inception in 2015.

"We're thrilled that Toby will be joining us to head up our global S&P teams. He brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge to the role and we're looking forward to working with him on a major restructuring of our S&P offering. This is part of our long-term investment strategy to build out our forward order book, combining newbuildings and S&P with long term period and projects." Mark Richardson, Chairman SSY.

Toby will be based in SSY's London office, situated in St Katharine's Dock.

The M&CCE Expo was acquired by Mercator Media Ltd in 2019 and has been successful produced twice under the Mercator Media banner. The name change is a clear statement to recognise that the Marine Civils sector drives much of commercial marine business activity, while at the same time making the most of the strength of the long established Seawork branding and marketing.

Marine Civils gives exhibitors the opportunity to showcase the latest innovations in equipment and solutions for marine, coastal and other challenging civil engineering projects.

The first Marine Civils online conference will be held 14:00- 15:00 on 5 October 2021 as part of the new virtual Seawork Connect. This is a free to attend conference in association with the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) and will be focusing on the benefits of HVO fuels.

The next ‘in-person’ Seawork and Marine Civils is planned for 21st-23rd June 2022.

The Port of Blyth has appointed a new Head of Commercial to oversee all business development activities and commercial strategy during what it expects to be an exceptionally busy period of expansion.

With an excellent track record in business development and customer service as well as a great deal of experience of the North East’s port sector, Alasdair Kerr is ideally positioned to support the Northumberland port’s ambitious growth plans.

Martin Lawlor, Chief Executive of Port of Blyth, said: “We’re delighted to welcome a person of Alasdair’s calibre to the port and are looking forward to him playing a key role in the next stage of our development.”

On his appointment, Alasdair added: “I’m thrilled to be joining the port and taking a lead on commercial matters at such an exciting time. There are so many positive developments taking place across a range of sectors around the estuary and I can’t wait to get started with the team and make my mark.”
