Hello and welcome

to the July issue of Venue Insight Magazine, the MUST HAVE publication for the UK hospitality industry.

Although the hospitality industry is not out of the woods yet, it can certainly take some comfort in knowing that ‘normality’ isn’t too far away. After a horrendous 16 months, it’s now time to start rebuilding and planning for the future. The Euros have been a huge boost for venues and if the sun gets it’s hat for the next couple of months allowing venues to flourish, then Covid will be a distant memory soon enough.

As always, it’s so great to be able to detail new openings and refurbs that are springing up all over the place. Pizza Punks – the anarchic artisans have launched a brand-new restaurant in Leeds, vegan restaurant brand Stem & Glory has opened a new larger site at the prestigious CB1 site in central Cambridge, new super-club The Lofts has launched in the North East and Plonk Golf have teed’d off with a new space in Camden to name but a few.

We’ve realised just how important having outdoor space is. The guys at Indigo Awnings provide some expert advice on how to transform your outdoor offering. Our first priority may be safety during Covid times but long term it is an amazing opportunity to generate the health return on the investment from a ‘need must’ to a ‘must do’. Put simply, an investment in outdoor space is the equivalent to creating money from fresh air.

We’re all hearing the same message lately: quality candidates are becoming like gold dust. But, did we as an industry realise the true impact of a diminishing workforce? Should we have been more prepared? And, what does it mean for hospitality going forward? To get an insight into how venues across the UK are dealing with this shift in candidate attraction, we spoke to Hospitality Jobs UK, a hospitality-specific job board run by recruitment specialists for our industry.

Cheers,

Rob Taylor Editor
