To the learner
We know you will enjoy working through English for Success Grade 9. We have tried to include something
for everyone, so that by the end of the year you will be able to: • listen for information and enjoyment, and respond appropriately according to the situation
• communicate confidently and effectively in spoken English in various situations
• read and view various texts for information and enjoyment, and respond critically
• write different kinds of factual and imaginative texts
• use the English language to help you think and reason
• use words and grammar to create and interpret different texts.
We have designed this book to help you develop the skills that you need for the Senior Phase. The overview at the beginning of
each chapter will list the skills you will practise and give you a general idea of what to expect. You will also find the table of contents at the front of the book, the Toolbox and the detailed index at the back of the book, which is useful for finding information. When you see this icon
