TRANSGENDER DAY OF EMPOWERMENT San Diego Pride will celebrate the rich diversity of San Diego’s transgender community

on Friday, April 2. This year’s program will be virtual to keep our community safe and will include trans speakers, community awards and the announcement of the seventh annual Tracie Jada O’Brien Transgender Student Scholarship recipients. These scholarships are open to students from or residing in San Diego County who

identify as transgender, are living outside of the gender binary and/or are in the process of transitioning their gender. This fund will grant monetary scholarships, as funds permit, to students who will be starting or continuing their education at a two-year college, four-year college, technical or grad school, or taking vocational training programs. Recipients must complete an application and provide all required information to substantiate eligibility. Applications are due Sunday, March 14. sdpride.org/tdoe

VIRTUALLY RED DRESS WEEKEND

Since a typical annual Red Dress Dress

Red Dance Party can’t be held this spring due to the pandemic, the LGBTQ Com- munity Center of the Desert is keeping the spirit alive with a Virtually Red Dress Weekend benefiting the official 10th anniversary of The Community Food Bank @ The Center, on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21. The Center is inviting all their friends in the Coachella Valley and beyond to choose a physically distanced activity of your choice and get active while engaging in peer-to-peer fundraising to raise $100,000 for their Community Food Bank. Fitness Influencer Craig Ramsay will guide us during that weekend with virtual warmups on both days, lead a Virtually Red Dress 5K Run/Walk, and close out the weekend with a virtual Head Over Heels dance party featuring DJ Galaxy, which will air on KGAY 106.5 FM and TWITCH.TV/ KGAY. So let’s keep the Red Dress spirit alive,

paint the valley virtually red, all while raising awareness for food insecurity and essential funds for your Community Food Bank @ The Center. thecenterps.org/index.php/virtually-red-dress

TRANSGENDER DAY OF VISIBILITY COACHELLA VALLEY

Trans Community Project invites you to attend this free annual event taking place on the

afternoon of Saturday, March 27 at Francis Stevens Park in Palm Springs. International Transgender Day of Visibility was started in 2009 as a reaction to the lack of LGBT recognition of transgender people, who were only being recognized by the more somber event, Transgender Day of Remembrance, held in November. Founded in 2012, the Trans Community Project was first established as the Coachella

Valley Transgender Community, hosting a trans support group at the original LGBT Community Center of the Desert, as well as monthly get-togethers under the name Trans Palm Springs. In 2014, the organization was renamed to Trans* Community Project, where they

continued to meet on a monthly basis, as well as host both the International Transgender Day of Visibility, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia and weekly candlelight vigils for our fallen trans sisters and brothers. In 2016, they removed the asterisk and simply became the Trans Community Project and

have since expanded services worldwide upon acquisition of Trans Role Models, helping people in places outside of the Coachella Valley to get resources and help with trans services. transcommunityproject.org
