QUEENS OF THE COACHELLA VALLEY: THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF DRAG Here’s the T, henny. Queens of the Coachella Valley: The History

and Culture of Drag will explore drag’s journey to the mainstream through media presentations, captivating stories and exciting performances that will educate, illuminate and entertain. The City of Rancho Mirage Community Cultural Commission will

present this original program online via Zoom on Tuesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. Drag performance and culture has existed for decades in the

United States, and in recent years has made its mark in mainstream popular culture. That history includes a vibrant community of drag performers and fans in the Coachella Valley. Prior to the COVID pandemic, it was possible to find a drag show going on every single night of the week in the desert. Beloved drag queen Bella da Ball, the “Hostess with the Most-est” and a social ambassador, will guide viewers through the history and culture of this fabulous and fantastic world that exists in our own backyard. Named Best Drag Personality by the Desert Sun, Bella da Ball has won numerous awards and accolades and become a fixture within the community. She is also a contributing writer for The Rage Monthly. Whether or not they’ve been to a drag show, viewers can expect

to have a fabulous time learning about this fascinating facet of our local culture. In addition to video clips, photos and a variety of other media, the program will also feature a special performance from local drag queen Marina Mac. This one-of-a-kind interactive program will stream live and conclude with a public Q&A session where viewers can engage with Bella and Marina. ranchomiragelibrary.org
