AN AYLESFORD man has been fined and disqualified for three years for drug-driving. Daniel Devall (32) of Coldhar-


bour, Aylesford, was sentenced at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Jan- uary 13.


He admitted driving while


above the legal drug drive limit in Hadlow, Tonbridge, on May 6, 2019. When tested he gave a read- ing of over 2.6mg of cannabis in one litre of blood. The legal limit is 2mg.


He was banned from driving for


three years and fined £120. He was also ordered to pay a victim sur- charge of £30 and costs of £85.


Hospice help THE Compassionate Neighbours

New head ‘will build on recent successes’


THE new headmaster at Sutton Valence School is James Thomas who will succeed Bruce Grindlay in September.


Father of three Mr Thomas, a Cambridge University theology graduate, is currently head of the senior school at the British School in Tokyo. Mr Grindlay, after 12 years at SVS, is going in the opposite di- rection with a new role as princi- pal of Rugby School Thailand. Mr Thomas said: “I am thrilled and honoured to have been ap- pointed as the next headmaster at Sutton Valence School.


“The school is in a wonderful position and I look forward to leading it in its next chapter. The opportunity to work with the stu- dents, staff, parents, governors, Old Suttonians and the many friends of the school community fills me with excitement.” Chair of

“The appointment follows an ex- tensive search with a strong list of candidates. “As the school heads towards its


450th anniversary in 2026, the governing body has every confi- dence that Mr Thomas’s appoint- ment will allow Sutton Valence to continue to go from strength to strength, building on the suc- cesses of the recent past.” Mr Thomas studied at St Paul’s School, London, before going to Trinity Hall, University of Cam- bridge. He holds an MA in Educa- tional Leadership from the University of London and also the National Professional Qualifica- tion for Headship. Formerly head of department at both Dulwich and Wellington Colleges, he progressed to direc- tor of studies at Harrow Interna- tional School in Hong Kong before moving to the British School in Tokyo in August 2014. Outside of work and family life, Mr Thomas’s interests include music, choirs, sport, travel and current affairs.
