News Two arrested
in ATM scam A MAIDSTONE man has been ar- rested after a pensioner was scammed whilst using a cash ma- chine.
It is alleged two men approached the victim at an ATM in The Pavil- ion, Tonbridge, and then distracted him by telling him the machine was faulty. The victim then discovered cash had been stolen while he was talk- ing to the suspects. A 24-year-old man from Strat-
ford, east London, and a 23-year-old man from Maidstone, were arrested in connection with the incident. They were later bailed to return to the police station on March 18 and 19, pending further enquiries.

Green opposition to electric car incentive
PROPOSALS to allow free park- ing for electric cars have come under fire from the Green Party. Maidstone Borough Council re- cently indicated its “serious” in- tent to mitigate rising number of vehicles caused by the authority’s housing plans. But Green Party spokesman
Donna Greenan, pictured, said the focus should be on providing bet- ter public transport. She said: “It’s all very well of- fering free parking, but it won’t reduce the number of cars on the roads – that’s only going to get worse. Congestion in Maidstone is awful – we need good public transport and fewer cars on the road.”
Pressing for free parking, Cllr
David Burton (Cons), chairman of the Strategic Planning and Infras- tructure Committee, said: “We talk the talk about climate change and air quality. It's about time we

users we aim to encourage the up- take of electric cars in the bor- ough. Free parking might save someone who works in Maidstone £140 per month. This could make
But the committee agreed offi- cers should investigate other methods to resolve this problem. Electric car drivers must still ob-
serve other parking rules, signifi- cantly including length of stay. “They must not hog parking bays,” warned Cllr David Naghi.
