News Mall car park

to go digital THE Mall shopping centre car park has gone digital to reduce the need for any physical contact. A new operator has removed

the barriers on both entry and exit points. Customers will now be able to pay on their mobile phones and reserve a parking space in advance. Drivers will also have the op- tion to pay after leaving the car park.

General manager for The Mall

Gavin Cockayne said: “We pride ourselves on putting the needs of our guests and community first.”

Pothole study KENT has the most reported pot-

holes in the country, a new study has revealed.

More than 52,000 were notified to Kent County Council between 2018 and 2020, which is responsi- ble for repairing them.

That figure is double that of Northern Ireland, a country with a similar population but bigger geographical area, and ahead of Staffordshire.

Villagers’ bid to raise funds to save church

HEADCORN residents have been rocked by the news that a Victo- rian Methodist Church has been closed, ready to be sold off. The cost of running the ancient building, in Headcorn’s conserva- tion area, proved to be more than the congregation could afford, de- spite generous donations. In an effort to save the building

from being snapped up by a devel- oper, villagers Sally Musker, Dun- can Payne, Tim Thomas, Victoria and Richard Berry, Dr Khum Raj Pathak and Bella Mansfield have formed a committee to transform it into a community hub.

Miss Mansfield (50), who has

lived in the village for 33 years, said: “I wept at my gran’s funeral in the church, danced at my 40th birthday there, held children’s par- ties and Laughing Workshops in the hall – it is so full of memories.” The issue is particularly sensitive since the rear of the building en-

overseen by the Local History So- ciety, run by Tim Thomas, who was christened in the church. He said: “The history society

He said: “We want to engage people of all ages and backgrounds, at a price everybody can afford.” To donate, please visit www.gofundme.com/f/The- Heart-of-Headcorn-Project.
