Leper & Medical Outreach
LEPROSY is a chronic illness that still afflicts thousands today. Leprosy causes progressive and permanent damage to nerves, skin, eyes and limbs. Left untreated, it can lead to blindness, ulcers, paralysis and amputation.
Modern medical therapies can now effectively treat the condition and stop its spread but early diagnosis is necessary to prevent disabilities. Sadly, leprosy mainly affects the poor with limited access to medical care. Those with leprosy often delay seeking treatment as their condition worsens. Lepers are shunned by friends, banished by neighbors, and forced to relocate to colonies. Lepers with visible bandages or disfigurements are despised and mistreated.
Still, other people live in impoverished areas where access to even the most basic medical care is difficult to get. Desperate for some kind of treatment, they travel far to talk with a nurse or doctor. Even then, they often don’t have the money to pay for care. Children are particularly at risk from a lack of medicines and basic healthcare.
For decades, WME and its supporters have responded with Christian compassion by providing medical assistance. YOU CAN HELP SAVE LIVES BY SENDING MEDICINE, FIRST AID, BASIC SUPPLIES AND MEDICAL PROCEDURES TO THOSE IN NEED.
