Taking site safety online


Te Electrotechnical Site Safety Assessment has now been added to the suite of training courses available in the SELECT virtual classroom

ELECT has recently adapted its course for The Electrotechnical Site Safety Assessment (TESSA) into a session based in our virtual classroom. Delivered on the


GoToTraining platform, this one-day SQA-approved course is suitable for applicants applying for the following new ECS Cards: ●Electrical Labourer ●Operative ●Site Support. Such applicants must complete the TESSA course, and when renewing their card in the future can complete the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment. The course is applicable broadly across the construction and related industries and has been accredited to SCQF Level 6 by the SQA. Successful candidates will be awarded an SQA certificate and should have the ability to: ●Operate safely within their abilities on a construction site ●Demonstrate a good level of knowledge about health and safety practice ●Demonstrate a basic level of knowledge about the structures and mechanisms associated with regulation of electrical work. The TESSA course is made up of two separate parts:


Home Study


Candidates are sent a home study pack at least two weeks before the course, which they must read and study – we recommend at least six hours of study time. These notes will form the basis of an online ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment at the end of the day course (see below).


TESSA Day Course


Conducted via virtual classroom, this will cover: ●Characteristics of good health and safety practice on a construction site ●Properties of electricity and their

effects on safety measures when working with it ●Standards, legislation, documentation and certification for UK electrical installations ●Practical measures to minimise the risk of accidents involving electrical installations ●Purpose and scope of the Building Standards Division.


Assessments will be conducted at various points during the day, consisting of workbook exercises and questions. Candidates must successfully complete BOTH the online ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment and the online workbook to complete the course. Once booked on the course, you will


receive an automated email from the GoToTraining platform with a copy of your course materials and a link to join. On the day itself you’ll need: ●A PC or laptop. A tablet or iPad can be used, but the presentations will appear smaller ●A webcam ●Course notes and materials ●Pen to take notes. The first course is scheduled for


25 February and costs £125 + VAT per SELECT Member. Further courses will be announced later this year.
