Health and safety training update


Several SJIB ECS Cards have been replaced by new cards that were introduced in January 2021, although the SJIB will honour any old card until it expires. SELECT Members should be


aware that the criteria for each of the new cards has changed – most signifi cantly the health and safety requirement. Anyone applying for the new


cards will have to prove that they have completed the appropriate health and safety training, with the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment not accepted.


Electrical Labourer/ Operative card Applicants must have completed one of the following health and safety courses within the last three years: ●CCNSG Safety Passport – National or Renewal course ●IOSH Working Safely (IOSH Approved Centre Classroom Invigilated exam only) ●Safety Passport Alliance


Step 5: Pay and fi nish The fi nal stage sees you pay the relevant fee and hit ‘Finish’. Your application will then appear in an SJIB Administrator’s to-do list for processing and you’ll get a message saying that the SJIB is reviewing your application and will advise of any issues that may prevent the card being issued.


Data at your fi ngertips A key feature of the new online service is that you’ll be able to see your training record and ECS card on your mobile, tablet or computer. In turn, this can be shown to an employer, potential employer, site manager or

Flexible options We know that some people still prefer pen and paper, so we’re providing the option to print out the application and enter the details by hand. All paper-based applications should be posted to The Walled Garden. The cards will be launched


in stages, with an initial focus on electrotechnical and management specialisms and the others following in due course.
