“A DAYOFSECONDS!” F

ive-year old Millie Wozencroft of Ludlow, Shropshireenjoyed her firstCountyouting this year on her newride Thistledown

Vanilla Orchid,aWelsh, ten-year old, 12hh Section AponybyBlackhill Picalo. The home- produced duo areanew partnership this season having found each other justafter lockdown ended. Millie has been working hardathome

getting to knowVanilla as well as having invaluable flatwork and jumping lessons with Dressage rider and Coach AmyBlount and Eventer Rosie Thomas, through the Ludlow Hunt Pony Club whereshe has been an active member sinceshe wasthree yearsold. The pair have experienced local success at

Wombourne Riding Club overthe summer, with severalFirstsand taking Ring Champion in both the Lead Rein and IntrotoShowing classes. Theyset themselves achallenge to experienceabigger eventongrass solo when the go ahead forThree CountiesHorse and Foal Showwas given this September. Despiteanearly alarm of 5.30am and a

chilly starttobeinthe ring at 8.30am, Millie rose to the challenge taking home two seconds in both the Mountain&Moorland Lead Rein and FirstRidden classinvery good company. Vanilla, as she is fondly known at home, looked after her tinyrider proving yetagain what a genuine, firstyear, first ridden ride she really is. Vanilla’swins and placings speak for themselves with her previous owners, Maxine Cooper and RubyBrown, however as Sarah Yates, Millie’smother adds, “I finditextremely nervewrecking asamother watching from afar when your child wantstogo it solo especially on anew ride at anew venuewith much older children. We have been incredibly luckytohave been entrustedwith such akind, honest pony as Vanilla. We hadonlyowned her forlessthan

amonth and off theyboth went confidently to athree-dayrally at Pony Club.I think hacking out has also really helped bond the pair together tooaswhen we areriding out at home on the farm, Ioften think Millie is talking to me however when Ilook behind she is actually chatting and singing away to Vanilla! We arealso very grateful to local shows, such as Wombourne at Midarc, run by Bryan Shearsand Team, that have given Millie and so manyother children the opportunity to get out, practiceand ride this summer when so manyshows got cancelled and lifewas far from the norm. Millie looks forwardtojoining the National Schools Equestrian Association in the NewYearsoshe canride forher school tooand aims to attend some affiliatedevents as well. mother/daughter combination so we will continue to enjoythese precious timesonthe Lead Rein beforeIamwell and truly side-lined! We areall extremely proud of Millie at home with her riding achievements, but mostofall we justenjoy watching her have lotsoffun with her ponies and making lotsofhappymemories. If we have learned anything from this year, ithas been to enjoythe present and focus on the things that keep us smiling! PoniesinUnicorn form such as Vanilla mostdefinitely being one of them!”.
