We have a problem – and it’s a good one. Thankfully, the day will come when this pandemic will at least sufficiently ease to allow us to meet together as a church. However, at present, the amount of people joining in our Sunday sharing time and fortnightly Bible studies has been doubled by those joining us from different countries and parts of the UK. What will happen to them when we are able to physically meet? We are actively looking at ways of continuing to offer what these people are looking for. There have been many phone calls during this last month and one of the encouraging features of these conversations has been the opportunity to help the person either understand themselves or someone they are trying to help. It is lovely to hear the

relief when another piece of the jigsaw falls into place and something makes sense for the first time.

It is so easy to be trapped

by our past or by patterns that we seem unable to break free from, but to talk something out and hear truth can change perspectives and bring peace. We are currently building a resource centre into our website that will contain material on many of the struggles that people have. That will be available in the future but in the meantime, there is a wealth of information on our website that addresses some of these issues. Visit the site and see what

you can discover. www.

An update from Dee’s Den charity shop

We wish you all a Happy A different Christmas

I'm sure a lot of energy will go into planning how to make Christmas work this year. Juggling 'family bubbles' and trying not to offend anyone could turn into a balancing act that requires considerable skill – and grace.

For others, this year may well be little .

different from others. For many, there is no family to visit. For those for whom Christmas is full of painful memories, perhaps the restrictions will cause it to pass with less fuss. Either way, one thing we know is that Christmas will be different – but maybe there is a good sense in which it can be different. This pandemic has caused us all to think through so many things that we take for granted. Life can be lived on 'auto-pilot' so perhaps this year is an opportunity to stop and ask – 'why do we do this Christmas thing every year?' Here is a story that will take us to the heart of it all. Mary Roberts Wilson was an American

Army nurse who was the first woman to earn a Silver Star for courage under

fire during World War II. She bore the nickname 'The Angel of Anzio.' When the Allies got bogged down in the boot of Italy during World War II, they attempted a daring breakout by launching an amphibious landing on the Anzio Beach. Unfortunately, the Allies got pinned down at the landing site and came dangerously close to being driven back into the ocean. It looked like another Dunkirk was in the making. Mary Wilson was the head of the

fifty-one army nurses who went ashore at Anzio. Things got so bad that bullets zipped through her tent as she assisted the surgeon in surgery. When the situation continued to deteriorate, arrangements were made to get all of the nurses out. But Mary Wilson would have none of it. She refused to leave at the gravest hour. As she related her story years later, she said: “How could I possibly leave them. I was a part of them.”

That is how God feels about us. He came to us in that tiny babe at Bethlehem.

He didn't desert us in our hour of need. Christmas is about God's eternal identification with the human dilemma. Jesus is the reason for the season and is the greatest gift this world has ever been given. The giving of gifts at Christmas is because of God's great gift. A gift is only as valuable as the amount of love with which it has been given. A hand-drawn Christmas card from a child might be better than a Rolex watch. The baby Jesus in a manger in Bethlehem was a tiny gift, completely unnoticed by some, but it came with more love than the world has ever known. And what an impact that gift has had! Jesus' coming has influenced the entire course of history and brought hope into millions of lives.

Perhaps this Christmas needs to be

different. A God of love is offering to stick with us, to walk with us through whatever the future holds. This year could be the beginning of that journey. www.halesworthcommunitychurch.org John Sparkes

New Year - Let's hope for an easier one for all of us! It was great to open the shop on the 2nd of December after our second lockdown and see the familiar faces of our customers again. Welcome back to everyone! For those who haven't been in recently, do come and see us! The charity shop is a covid-safe place with social distancing and all the guidance to keep customers and volunteers safe. The main Dee's Den shop is open six mornings a week, open from 10am until 1pm, Monday to Saturday. Call in and grab a bargain! We have our WINTER SALE in January - fantastic bargains to be had! Jackets and coats for sale for as little as £3. We have different promotions every week. Our popular £1 rail has some great bargains, our way of moving clothing on that has not sold - outside if the weather is good. We sell plants and produce too when we have donations. You can now pay by credit card as well a cash as we have installed a card machine for payment. We have a wide variety of items: winter clothes, shoes, boots, baby and children's clothes and shoes, books,

jigsaws, games, puzzles, a variety of bags, bric-a-brac, kitchen and tableware, linen, curtains and bedding. We also have some items of small furniture.

Ann continues to be busy making her wide range of jams and marmalades - if you haven't tasted her products, you are missing a treat! Thank you, Ann for your continued support. We accept donations on Mondays and Thursdays 10am - 1pm. You can help us by bringing in only two or

three bags/boxes at time. Everything needs a to

be clean and saleable. Please remember, we don't accept electrical items and please do not leave anything at the door when we are closed. Deliver items to the sorting end of the shop in Steeple End. You can pull up outside the door! Twice a week allows us to quarantine items for the recommended seventy-two hours, before being sorted. Clean but worn clothing and bedding is accepted too for recycling, please mark the bags 'recycling'. We really value the continued support of this local charity by the local community. Every penny spent in the shop, after rent

and electricity, supports the work of the charity. The Pear Tree Centre has remained open during the recent lockdown, offering a range of services for the people of Halesworth and surrounding fifteen mile area who have a life changing condition and where their families can seek help and support phone 01986 899655. The charity also provides additional care for

those

registered with Cutlers Hill surgery, enabling people to be cared for at home at end of life, so people can die at home if this is their wish. We couldn't function without our amazing shop volunteers:

Linda, Eileen,

Sue E, Pauline, Jill, Chrissie, Katy, Jane, Chris, Gay, Valda, Erica, Anne, Bernadette, Sue B, Dawn, Noman, Ann, Susie, Dot, Irene, Viv, Anne, Cathy, Pam,

Marie, Val,

Felicity

and Mary and Trustees Jane, Barb, Frances. Some of our volunteers are yet to re-join the team but we look forward to seeing them back with us. Thank you, Glen, for your continued help, Heath, for your advice on donations. A special thank you also to Maggie and Bob for the use of storage space. We look forward to seeing you.
