2 - Christmas/ New Year 2020 - Halesworth & Southwold Community News Blyth Valley Parkinson’s

Support Group As we emerge from the second lockdown, we find we are still unable to meet but members have been keeping in contact with one another in different ways. A few did manage to meet as a small group of 6 at The Pear Tree Centre in October but that is now on hold again. This is a very difficult time for many of our members, our meetings offer human contact and a chance to socialise with those who understand the trials and tribulations of living with

the disease.

As we approach 2021, we hope we will be able to meet at The Pear Tree Centre and offer face to face friendship and support once again to our members. If you have the disease or are looking after someone with it, please do not hesitate to contact us through The Pear Tree Centre or Gail 01986 872283

All that remains is to say have a happy and safe Christmas and lets look forward to a brighter 2021.

SEASON’S GREETINGS TO ALL OUR CUSTOMERS!

#148419

All our children were welcomed back last September. It is heart -warming to see them taking part in learning and socialising again. They have adjusted

well to covid-safe environment

their new and

lessons and activities continue as before but in class bubbles. We now have to think creatively to ensure that they do not miss out on events that we have always celebrated at Edgar Sewter. The whole school met together virtually on the 23rd of October for Harvest Festival. Each class read harvest stories

and poems. Rev. J Sermon led the school in prayers and explained the importance of the work carried out by the Waveney Food Bank. The children had specifically requested that the tinned food they had collected should be donated to the Food Bank.

They again demonstrated

their generosity to Children in Need. They had a non-uniform day in return for a donation of nearly £360. In lessons, they talked about the importance of the charity and the work it does. They also marked

Remembrance Day in a different way this year. Each class bubble had researched the significance of Remembrance and the older children went outside for the two minute silence looking back at the window display of poppies they had created. We are now planning how celebrate Christmas as a

to

school in a safe environment, however it is sad that parents and grandparents will not be able to join us, but everyone at Edgar Sewter would like to wish them and the rest of the community a very happy Christmas.

Mark Punchard's charity cycle ride update

As you may have read in an earlier edition of the Community News, Mark Punchard decided to take on the challenge and cycle 300 miles in aid of Cancer Research. It worked out perfect timing as having been sent home from work to shield due to covid-19, this provided not only a means of raising funds for this valuable cause – but also a way to stay fit.

Having selected a suitable local route, Mark rode every day from the 1st of September through to the 18th of September, sometimes doing around 10 miles a day and other times it would be nearer 35 miles! As it happened, Mark completed his 300 miles a few days before he finished due to an error on his

tracking device! Mark explains

that whilst

getting out on his bike he was able to appreciate the countryside which was so familiar to him (as a Halesworth man born and bred) in a different way. The changing of the seasons, the different smells, sights and colours – all seemed more vivid. In the month in which Mark celebrated turning sixty, it seems fitting that he was able to get out and do 'his bit' to raise much needed funds for a cause close to his heart. So, what was the end result? Having set out hoping to raise £150, Mark actually ended up raising £2,213!

What a fantastic effort, well done to Mark and all who have supported him!
