Halesworth & Southwold Community News - Christmas/ New Year 2020 15 Halesworth and District U3A
One step forward and then two back indoors again
Since last month’s report, we
have once again moved back to further restrictions with those U3A groups starting to meet outdoors once again
hitting
the pause button. However, the growing optimism of a vaccine becoming widely available, to prevent covid, gives cause for hope that many will be able to resume U3A face to face activities once again in the not so distant future. The so called 'new normal'
however, looks to be likely with us for a while yet with many groups continuing to meet on Zoom, and our monthly talks now re-established on Zoom on each third Tuesday afternoon of the month.
November saw Mark Mitchels
make his return, this time on Zoom to give an excellent illustrated talk about the history of Dunwich which was enjoyed by 40 or so members. December will see us move our AGM (postponed from September) take place in part online and in part by post.
Halesworth Library Hope for a new chapter in 2021
Firstly, the staff at Halesworth Library would like to thank all our customers this year who have continued to support us through such challenging times. We know the service hasn't been the same, but we very much hope you have found comfort from popping in, collecting books, and having a quick chat. We most definitely have enjoyed seeing you. Although, there remains some uncertainty for the new year. We are aiming to return to book browsing in January. Please keep an eye on our social media pages, the website (not Google as this gives only the pre-covid opening times) and in the library for any updates.
Reservations are busy, our 'Select and Collect' service continues to be popular and we will be providing this service for the foreseeable future. The number of books you may borrow is twenty and computers need to be pre-booked. Fundraising for Ali’s Garden is almost at an end, but if you would still like to make a contribution for finishing touches, and a plaque in memory of Ali, you can make a contribution by visiting the library. Or, you can contribute via bank transfer to: Sort code: 40-23-04 Account number: 81263528 Please use the reference 'garden'. Thank you if you have
made a contribution towards this wonderful project.
Below are our opening times
for December: Monday: 10:00-16:00 Tuesday: 10:00-16:00 Wednesday: 10:00-16:00 Thursday: 10:00-14:00 Saturday: 10:00-16:00
Once again, a big thank you from all the staff for your patience and understanding during this time. We wish you all a merry Christmas and look forward to welcoming you next year. The Halesworth Library Team

. By the time you read this,
all Halesworth U3A members should have received either by post or email details of how to participate in this unusual AGM. Those online will be invited (by link) to join a Zoom session on Tuesday the 15th of December at 14:00 when we complete our AGM process. We are asking all members who wish to vote to do so in advance of the online meeting. Our Zoom AGM session will be joined immediately
after
completing the formal business by Dean Parkin. Dean is well known to many of us and promises to entertain us with his well-loved mix of thoughtful words and humour. This year we all will need to provide our own refreshments! Covid-19 restrictions have understandably caused some of our activities to go into abeyance with others moving online. We
continue however to welcome new members, and are delighted to see some new people joining us over recent months. For those now retired or looking towards this, or those recently moved to the area, the thought of joining your local U3A has perhaps understandably not been to the fore recently. With more than 250 local members, we offer a warm welcome and a range of activities. Should you wish to join us, application forms (membership £15 p/annum) along with contact details for the leaders of our many activities, are to be found on the Halesworth U3A website. We look forward both to hearing from you, and to a return to our face to face activities, during the coming year.
Best wishes go to all our members and friends for a safe and happy, if somewhat different, Christmas this year as we look forward to a more positive 2021.

Sheila Sankey In loving memory of our
dearest Mum who passed away 4th January, 2003. God called your name so
gently, that only you could hear.
No one heard the footsteps
of an angel drawing near. Softly from the shadows,
there came a gentle call. You closed your eyes and
went to sleep. You quietly left us all. We love you Mum and miss
you always and forever xx From your ever loving daughter and son Barbara and Dale xxx
