More structural work was done around the master bedroom, creating two separate but interlinking dressing rooms and ensuites – surely every woman’s dream. Early risers or night owls can each use their own room without disturbing the other person – a perfect solution.

Another key element was the design of the abundance of bathrooms – seven as well as guest cloakrooms downstairs. “We were looking for understated elegance in the bathrooms. We wanted to maximise space to create seven unique light and fresh spaces.”

In the basement of the property is a leisure suite which previously housed a swimming pool and gym. The gym was moved to a different room, still in the basement, and now alongside the refurbished swimming pool are a sauna, steam room and hot tub as well as space for treatments – the perfect place for the busy family to relax and unwind.

After almost a year’s worth of work, the house was ready for the family to move in to. So what was their verdict?

“We moved in with the help of Cream & Black and the whole process was exceptionally smooth despite the challenges of Covid 19,” Martin said.

“In a very short space of time it became home to my wife, myself and our 15 year old twins. They both loved their bedrooms and workspace which was exceptionally designed.

“As busy people running a worthwhile charity, The Martin James Foundation and The Martin James Group of Companies, we did not have a lot of time to spend on details. Effectively we handed everything over to Cream and Black and they did not disappoint, giving care and attention to the minutest detail.

“A lot of design and building work needed to be done and Cream & Black handled this all with skill and aplomb.”

And for Cream & Black?

“We’ve been going for seven years now and this was a really exciting project for us.

“We pride ourselves on being forward thinking and innovative and we wanted to make sure every room had its own personality. We don’t want to simply keep rolling out one design style. We love to branch out creatively. Every house and family are unique and we want our work to reflect that.”

Their previous projects have included commercial and residential premises throughout the UK. Most of the work is complete renovations such as this most recent project as well as new builds but they do also take on smaller projects too.

“Whatever we do we want to add value to their homes. Clients can be involved as little or as much as they want but we hold their hand throughout the process to take away the stresses and strains which are inevitable in this work.” In the New Year the business will be moving to a new level with a brand new design studio, show room and boutique space in Gordon Road, Harborne. Due to the latest lockdown, planned soft openings this month may have been postponed but they hope to be fully up and running in January.
