HOW GREAT SKIN CAN IMPROVE YOUR SELF CONFIDENCE
Beauty is more than skin deep, but it can be difficult to feel your best when the face you present to the world each day appears tired or dull.

Fine lines, wrinkles and sagging caused by ageing skin can affect your confidence and self-esteem and, although you can’t stop the ageing process, it is possible to control skin damage and slow the signs. Maintaining a healthy routine can help you look good and feel more confident in your own skin.
COLLAGEN AND THE AGEING PROCESS
The way skin ages is dictated by collagen – a protein that makes up 70% of skin tissue and gives your skin strength and elasticity. "Collagen is what gives our skin structure and keeps it from sagging, giving us that plump, youthful look," says Air Aesthetics Medical Director and Aesthetician Dr Claire Oliver (GDC).
“Your body naturally makes collagen, but this production decreases with age. After the age of 20, a person produces around 1 percent less collagen in the skin each year. As a result, the skin becomes thinner and more fragile with age," Dr. Oliver says. "Women can lose up to 30% of their collagen production in the first 5 years of menopause.”
She adds, “Many factors can speed up the decrease of collagen production in addition to ageing. These include smoking, excess sugar, sun damage from UV rays, excess alcohol consumption and eating processed food.” The long-term result? Slacker skin and fine lines.
