OTRA members know how to make the most out of any situation. I see them trail riding on Facebook and I frequently meet
fellow members on the trail. Our Directors are meeting and working hard to ensure that our 2021 calendar of events is full. To know what is happening see our website or Facebook Visit:
www.ontariotrailriders.ca or on Facebook: Ontario Trail Riders Association Inc. - OTRA Before The snow my first thought is that this is the time to ensure all pasture gates are in good operation and will not be stuck in
snow. Deep snow also makes fences easier to step over. Walk your fence lines now before the snow. Being proactive and checking all these things brings you peace of mind. Have your trailer accessible and check tire pressure in the colder temps including the spare. Ensure you have a backup plan for water should the hydro go down for any length of time. Always keep your water topped up and make sure you have a heater in it. Run your generator once a month so that you know it’s ready when needed and have extra fuel on hand. Have sand, ashes or ice melter for use on path- ways to ensure safe passage for horses in emergencies. You don’t want your horse to go down on ice. A first aid kit that has been replenished saves stress during accident or illness. If your horses have been on pasture introduce new hay slowly to avoid colic issues. If your horses wear blankets they should be checked daily for effectiveness and rubs. Wet or ill fitting blankets can be detrimental. Yvonne Taylor and Stewart Dunkley We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Pixie, the newest member of OTRA. Congratulations
Laurie Panagiotou on the purchase of your future trail horse and friend for Barbie. “If you talk to a horse he will listen. If you listen to a horse he will talk.” Dawn Winter
