www.orcha.ca ORCHA Sponsors Vice-President ORCHA News Well we finally got to-
gether for our workday in Sep- tember and it turned into a work weekend. With Werner, Steve, Jon and Tim heading up the crew, you knew they would get a lot accomplished; and boy did they ever! Members and non-mem- bers alike showed up and pitched in to get so much done. What a fantastic group of people. Old boards were replaced, some new posts were put in, gates were
changed, and the top of the cut- ting pen was shortened and rein- forced. The dirt that piled up in the corners was pulled into the center of the pen and leveled. Some people camped overnight and had a trail ride and a cow- boy’s breakfast. These guys like to enjoy themselves but when it comes to the work part, what a bang-up job they did! I’m telling you this is just a great group of people in this association.
On a side note, I guess by
now everybody knows that I had a little mishap at the beginning of September and I just want to say a big thanks to all the wonderful people that have called and sent get well messages. A great big thank you goes to Sharon and Sherry for all their extra work at home while I am laid up. ~Craig

dwc@dc2graphics.com Bigger Is Better! That is the motto of the “Deep Cut Cow-
boys”, Brad Bowie, Scott Reed and Eric Van- Boekel. On September 19-20th, the second annual OCHA Roundup, hosted by the Deep Cut Cow- boys, was held at the beautiful Ancaster Fair- grounds in Jerseyville, Ontario. Judging from the feedback of those who attended, the show was once again a resounding success, in spite of the challenges presented by the Covid19 pandemic, which we have come to be all too familiar with. The weekend of cutting classes kicked off
on Friday with a riders’ clinic offered by NRHA/NRCHA/NCHA trainer, Chet Martin of Arthur, Ontario as well as Canadian Cutting Horse Hall of Famer, Jim MacKay of Brantford, Ontario. These professional horsemen offered an “introduc- tion to herd work” to 13 very enthusiastic and eager riders, who had the opportunity to work their horses on a mechanical flag, as well as on live cat- tle throughout the day. All riders came away with new skills which they were excited to put into practice in the show pen the following day. Several vendors/sponsors were on scene
throughout the weekend, offering a shopping ex- perience to spectators and exhibitors. Special thanks to Mahogany Bay Stables, Bob Northcott of Arthur Chrysler, Fletcher’s Horse World & Trailer Sales, Grand River Power Sports, The Slid- ing Stop Tack Shop, The Saddle Shack, Rapid Re- lief, Mad Barn, Brooks Performance Horse Feeds, Right As Rein Ranch, Lynne Poole and Healthy Coat Equine. For those who have never experienced the
thrill of riding a cutting horse, they were able to don a pair of goggles courtesy of the National Cut- ting Horse Association and take a virtual ride on “HASHTAGS”, the 2018 Open Cutting World Champion and Horse of the Year. Two full days of cutting on Saturday and

Sunday were judged by NCHA/AQHA judge Joe Carter of Georgetown, Ontario. (For complete show results, visit ontariocut-
tinghorseassociation.com). Following the regular Saturday classes, Jim Mac Kay grabbed his guitar and took to the “im- promptu stage”, playing a few songs for us, accompanied by the silky voice of Lexie Reed. The highlight of the weekend however was the Mad Barn Second Annual Bridleless Cut- ting event on Saturday evening. Heart-pumping music played as spectators cheered loudly for the riders who showcased their horses’ natural cow sense and ability without the use of a bridle. The horses responded to the excitement and laid down some huge stops and powerful turns! Brad’s BBQ was also onsite, serving up some mouth- watering brisket and fall-off- the-bone ribs — it was a great weekend!! The “Deep Cut Cow-
