White Ball in Long Beach. Little did I know that I would be going for an overnighter every month since I first experienced the excitement a year and a half ago. The resort and casino are located in Funner, California, off state highway 76 about 15 miles east of the 15 freeway, on the Rincon Indian Reservation in northern San Diego County. When we make that final turn and see the hotel, we know that we are in store for a great time with excellent food. Owned by Caesars Entertainment, Harrah’s has locations all over the

country. We love the rooms, and love playing the slots and table games. The Caesars Reward Card is valid at all of their resorts. It’s super cool because your gambling and food purchases earn points that are good for future free stays and resort credits. Anyway, not too long ago, they added one of my new favorites, the interactive solo station video machines that give you the opportunity to play any of the table games one on one with a dealer stationed in the center carousel or simply play yourself against the machine. Currently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, they also have every other slot machine turned off to maintain social distancing and limited table occupancy. In addition, they are in the process of replacing and adding permanent distanced machines in many locations of the casino. Things got very “suite” upon check in. Usually, we stay in a regular room, which is always nice. But on this visit, we stayed in one of the Oh So Suite rooms. Just over 1,000 square feet, it has a cozy living area and a large, master with a comfy King bed. We could check out the fun below from our huge private balcony while taking in the stunning pool and mountain views. The soaker Jacuzzi tub also had a tremendous view, and the room was wonderful on every level. Speaking of the pool, the Grown-Up Splash Zone was awarded 2019

orget that trek to Las Vegas, because Harrah’s Resort Southern California has all of the bells and whistles, and it is in our own backyard. I was first introduced to this awesome resort casino when I won a staycation during a silent auction at the Black and

Readers’ Choice Travel Awards “Best Pool.” This is where you can relax, take a dip and soak up the SoCal sun in style. Guests 21+ only have access to three hot tubs, multiple cabanas, luxury loungers, daybeds and two fire pits. The amazing Lazy River is a wonder to behold and you can float around on an inner tube while remaining relaxed and refreshed. Inner tubes are available at the Dive Shop. Since we did early check-in at 1 p.m., we headed to KJ Chinese Restaurant with its massive menu of authentic Asian food from many regions. For example, they have dim dum, noodle soups, congee, just about every seafood and meat that you could imagine, Chef Specials, on and on. We frequently order the Pad Thai, but one of our new favorite dishes is the Rice Noodle with Salted Fish & Chicken, a complex and heavenly dish. We also tried something new, Braised Yee Noodle, which is a typical Cantonese noodle made from wheat flour with the most fantabulous gravy. The portions at KJ are very generous and packed with authentic flavors. According to Shannon Gavin, the delightful PR and sponsorship

supervisor since 2018, who did a magnificent job in arranging our stay, they recently added an Italian restaurant called Che Bello (which means beautiful). It currently occupies the buffet space and is open Friday through Sunday evenings. This eatery serves gorgeous classic Italian favorites as well as made-to-order pizza featuring toppings of your choice. You can grab a hot and ready slice, a variety of pastas, made-to-order sandwiches and salads, or enjoy a range of specialties like Tuscan short ribs and rotisserie chicken. The upscale seafood and steak house Fiore is featured here. When you

enter, you are transported into a chic section of the resort. We ordered a glass of wine and appetizers. While all of the choices were enticing, we had to try the Lobster Tempura, garnished with sun-dried tomato aioli and deconstructed pesto sauce, and the Crab Cakes drizzled with a classic Remoulade sauce. Both were crispy on the outside and filled with divine shellfish, which is always a special delicacy.
