Device for collecting microplastics

A

device to collect microplastics from the sea has been designed by the Suzuki Motor Corporation

for installation on outboard motors. Marine plastic waste is a growing

environmental issue, with a huge amount of mismanaged waste flowing into the oceans each year. The waste then breaks down into microplastics in the ocean’s ecosystem, significantly impacting marine life. To help tackle this issue, Suzuki has focused on the structure of the outboard motor,

which pumps up tons of seawater to cool the engine and then returns the water to the ocean. It has developed a device that collects microplastic waste from the returning water just by running the engine. The device can be easily fitted to

the return hose and does not affect the boat’s performance since it only utilises the liquid that has already been used to cool the engine. Suzuki Motor Corporation customerservices@suzuki.co.uk www.marine.suzuki.co.uk

New operations structure for MB92 Barcelona

Leading refit, repair and maintenance boatyard MB92 Barcelona has announced the reorganisation of its Operations

Department in order to increase efficiency and cater for the growing workload since the

launch of the new 4,800 tonne shiplift for superyachts last year. It follows the departure of Miquel À. Lliteras, Shipyard Manager, who after 21 years in the MB92 family, has decided to start a new professional venture. The new operations structure comprises HSE, Project Management, Project Administration and Operations Management, and will be headed by Jordi Ariet, who has been with the company for more than 15 years. Jordi, who trained as a marine engineer, began his career at MB92 as a Project Manager and progressed through the company before becoming Project Director in 2011 and Director of Project Management in 2019. In order to enhance MB92 refit services, a Project Management

Office (PMO) has been created to improve standardisation of working practices and procedures at the boatyard, and oversee the smooth running of each project. The PMO will be led by Marc Valderrama and Mario Domínguez, both Senior Project Managers, who become PMO Manager and PMO Co-ordinator. In addition to these changes,

Albert Gay has been appointed Operations Manager, a new role that has been created to

oversee both maintenance and operations of the technical facilities, including dry dock,

shiplift, syncrolift and boat hoist, as well as berthing. Marina Barcelona 92 SA info-barcelona@MB92.com www.mb92.com
