Palma marinas clean up the seabed
On 21 September, it was announced that Marina Port de Mallorca and the adjacent Marina Palma Cuarentena, both belonging to the IPM IMG Group, had carried out an operation to clean the seabed around their facilities in Palma de Mallorca.
Staff of both marinas – aided by divers – dedicated a morning to remove a variety of objects from below the water, as well as marking the position of more bulky items with buoys. Once recovered, these were placed in skips for removal. The images of motorcycles, shopping trolleys, electric scooters, traffic signs, rubbish bins, vehicle wheels and other garbage retrieved from the Mediterranean were then used to raise awareness amongst the marinas’ berth-holders and visitors of the need to protect the marine environment. Andreas Schweimler, who was in charge of managing and organising the clean-up, together with the captain of the marinas, Oscar Fernández, both agreed that their efforts were a useful contribution to preserving the fragile eco-system of the sea on which the future of leisure boating ultimately depends.
US company opens service centre at MB92
Quantum Marine Stabilizers, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of these systems, has announced the opening of its second European service centre within the MB92 facilities in Barcelona, Spain.
For over a decade, Quantum’s European manufacturing and service facility located in The Netherlands, handled all European service work. However, with the Mediterranean megayacht fleet continuing to grow, Quantum recognised the need to provide service and sales support within the region. Barcelona offers both an extensive yacht support infrastructure and quick access to the Mediterranean, representing shorter response times.
